the trailer for Sing just had me constantly thinking "man, Disney realized this world concept so much better earlier this year".

It had me thinking "'Sing For the Moment' is really not a appropriate song for this trailer. Especially when it uses the line "They say music can alter moods and talk to you" but cuts the next line which is 'Well can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?'"

But perhaps not quite as blatantly as Secret Life of Pets and Sausage Party were treading on Pixar's toes

Secret Life of Pets also didn't have the most appropriate song for a trailer for a kid's movie.

My favorite bit of Lion King 2 animation is when Simba kind of slides into the frame like a Flash tween. It cracked me up the first time I watched it.

Wow, that French version from 2014 actually looks A LOT more visually interesting.

Christophe Ganz movies tend to look visually interesting but that's usually all there is to them. On the other hand there's no Ariana Grande songs.

It seems like mangled rap songs are going to be the new norm when it comes to trailers for animated movies. "Oh poo poo, gotta cut off Xzibit before he mentions weed!"

I rewatched Kungfu Panda last night and I still think it's one of the best animated films of the last few decades. The plot is interesting, the script is really tight with lots of humour but plenty of poignant moments, no superfluous characters, awesome kungfu action, very strong voice acting, and the animation still holds up even if the texturing is a bit weak if you really look for it.

10/10 would recommend.

Oogwei is best character.

"The bad guy must never get hold of this important scroll!"
"Why not?"
"Because it might teach him an important moral lesson!"

Also, they kinda gloss over the fact the Po obliterates the bad guy.

Hyenas are kinda awful irl though. Whereas lions are pretty much housecats if housecats could eat you, i.e. a kind of awful people have come to romanticize, i.e. consummate royalty

Lions and hyenas inhabit the same geographic ranges in Africa and depend on the same prey as food. This competition fuels a relationship characterized by animosity. When the animals cross each others’ paths they react with hostility, sometimes without apparent reason. Observers have noted occasions where male lions seem to take pleasure in harassing or killing hyenas...Although the two species share the same geographic range, both lions and hyenas are territorial and extremely aggressive toward one another. Lions have been known to kill hyena young, and a lion entering hyena territory is dealt with swiftly and aggressively by the individuals guarding the den. Territorial disputes are frequent, and observers in Ethiopia observed a conflict of war-like proportions in April 1999. At the end of two weeks of intense fighting, six lions and 35 hyenas were dead.

Japan's also not a big fan of Chihiro from Spirited Away for the same reason. I think while Americans miss a lot of the cultural references in that movie, they tend to have more sympathy for the main character.
In the book that Grave of the Fireflies is based on the main character is supposed to be unsympathetic because he failed to take care of his little sister.
