I might be late for the discussion but I just saw "Birdboy" and loved it. If anyone can find a screening, I high recommend it. It's like if the sequel to Ernest and Celestine was Princess Mononoke.

That's right. Here's a trailer, though honestly I went into it relatively cold and think I enjoyed it a bit more for it.

https://youtu.be/MmcVSs43A8A

The contrast between the cutesy style of the film and the brutality of the setting is well balanced, used to intensify dramatic moments and never played out for laughs.

It's cute, heartbreaking and very clever. My only complaint is that it's too short. It juggles a handful of storylines that have to do with ecological devastation, puppy love, fascist messaging, runaways and drug addiction to name the most prominent themes. By the end I wanted it to keep going just to see those issues played out more.

It's based on a graphic novel that I'll definitely pick up if I can find a copy.

Thanks, I'll try and check it out. Maybe it's just the trailer, but that dub looks like it's horrible and I hope the original dialogue is an improvement.

Sure does look like Ernest and Celestine, you're right.

Pickle Rick wasn't even close to the best episode this season

I'm not overly familiar with the Annies. Are they based on animation quality only? Pickle Rick's action scenes were pretty impressive and dynamic.

It's not really important, I'm sure it's more of a vote for the show overall. That episode probably just has the most buzz about it.

Watched "Batman Ninja" last night (the Japanese version). The 3D cell shading annoyed me a lot less than I thought it would, and most of the backgrounds and characters look downright amazing. It was a pretty crazy film, and the short run time made it feel rushed, but overall I enjoyed it for what it was.

Yeah, I had read that. Most of the appeal for me was the visual spectacle so a dub with a radically different concept isn't worth a re-watch.

I generally don't watch dubs any way.

Really? Was this the Japanese version of the story or the US one?

Really, there is so little of interest conveyed through the dialogue in the Japanese version I can't see how it would really matter which version you get. Watch it for the visual splendour.

it's actually kinda weird now that I think about it, the movies and TV series are what I think of when I hear Addam's Family, so that's how I picture the characters, but that's not how they were originally conceived

I now find it more bearable, if they've gone back to the roots I'm fine with it. Not that there's a big problem with fat Gomez just for the sake of it, but I just love the original tv version.

I'm looking for a movie that I think was talked about here? I don't remember the title though.

What I do remember it's got like this celebrity or something and it's this really cybernetic / futuristic digital world where like she's super old but her grandkids (?) are trying to introduce her to this new future.

I remember it was animated. Does anyone know what movie this is?
