So I woke up this morning to find out that my last ship lost someone over the side.

https://www.navytimes.com/articles/cruiser-normandy-sailor-reported-overboard-near-north-carolina-massive-search-underway

They're still at River City. I've been on shore duty less than a year, so it's almost certainly someone I know.

Now make warfare pins voluntary, too, and we get to actually select people who genuinely give a care.

So within a month of me getting back to Great Lakes to instruct, a bunch of senior E-6s left the command, so the percentage of MTS qualified instructors dropped like a stone. The Chiefs knee-jerked into mandatory after work MTS training Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The best part is that they have a policy that you aren't even eligible to board for MTS until you've been at the command for 6 months. Because of course.

Edit:

Not to be... I really really loving hope that this isn't the case again, but like Apraxin said, this is looking like a near-exact repeat.

In my defense I got told like a million times not to gently caress the students and I don't think I was ever specifically told not to take apart my M9 while on watch.

A couple of points, since there's a lot of discussion going on about it:

This happened in Great Lakes, where I am an FC A school instructor. The gates are manned by a combination of MAs, civilian Guards, and ASF (Auxiliary Security Force) which is what I was. The security forces here have been comically undermanned for a very long time, so they started putting students awaiting orders through the command's version of SRF-B and putting them on the gates with us. It was one of these students, a fellow watch stander, who casual conversation at the clearing barrel was overheard by the next shift's Watch Commander, a civilian. Things were pretty much on auto-pilot from there. They had the kid sign an official statement, scaring the piss out of him in the process. I'm not about to play "he said, she said" with a junior sailor who did the right thing when I hosed around, so I when they asked me if I wanted to make a statement, I owned up. So we'll see.

My DRB was today. I'm going up, but the base CMC remanded it to my Schoolhouse CoC, which is... a good thing? I've never even met the CO of the base, that would have been a poo poo show for sure (not that today wasn't.)

Then I got to spent three hours at dental. So I'm drinking tonight.

Mr. Bad Guy

After my DRB (and three hours of dental work) I went home and slept for 14 hours. When I woke up my wife had thrown away all of our pain medication because she thought (probably correctly) that I was coming down with the sadbrains. I laughed and told her that I wasn't bitch-made, it was gonna be my safety razor if it ever came to that.

So then she threw that away and now I have to use a loving Gillette. I'm gonna point to that as the last straw in my suicide note just to gently caress with her, lol.

considering a lethal dose in humans is 40-60mg, a seizure and then living is getting off easy. How in the gently caress was this dude able to take a drag on his vape without dying himself?

As I've had to tell my class about a thousand times since the incident, I wasn't there, and neither were most of the people telling stories about it, so literally every single aspect of the story is up for debate, including the potency of the juice, whether or not he told her about it/she knew about it beforehand, whether it was a seizure vs. getting dizzy and falling down. I even told them that I could make up a clearly embellished version that only an idiot would believe, and that it would be making the rounds by Monday. I stopped just shy of giving an example because of course it would. loving students. At least when I do stupid poo poo is only affects me my family's financial security.
