Rall's "caricature" of Trump is always going to be the most annoying thing for me about his cartoons. Absolutely no attempt whatsoever. edit: I'm assuming that's Trump and not Hillary up there purely because of the tie, it's that bad. Bill Leak (): Leak notes: CFMEU is the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, and drawing Opposition Leader Bill Shorten as its puppet is a stock Leak character (including the red cap which pre-dates Trump). Turnbull had a phone call with Trump to secure the deal to resettle the refugees on Manus Island and Nauru and since then has been saying only very chummy things about our relationship with the US, to the point where everyone on the political spectrum has noticed and is wondering what this is going to cost us in return.

David Rowe (): There are strong rumours that Senator Cory Bernardi, inspired by Trump and Brexit, is about to jump ship from the Liberals to form his own conservative Bernardi Pardi. There are questions about whether it's going to be just him (which would at best still be a major headache for the Libs) or whether any MPs in the lower house are along for the ride (which would be an utter shambles). Malcolm Bligh Turnbull's middle name is from the captain of the Mutiny of the Bounty, so expect a lot of Aussie cartoons on this motif.

Parliament is in session. Bill Leak: Turnbull is starting the new year of parliament by going full out on the attack on Opposition Leader Bill Shorten (pictured), which Leak and the Australian love. David Rowe: A bunch of stuff that happened in parliament. Right: Rowe's take on Turnbull in attack mode. Back: Power security in South Australia is a top priority for the government and Turnbull is starting to go close to full Abbott on the War on Windmills. Left: The government is scrapping the Gold Life Pass, a perk for ex-pollies to get free business class travel if they have been around for long enough. Senator Ian Macdonald the current longest serving politician broke from the rest of the government to defend politicians and their perks. Front: Treasurer Scott Morrison came to question time with a lump of coal and passed it around for the rest of government to play with, this is a thing that happened in our parliament. Not pictured, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce is a coal wizard:
