He's like a #3 receiver at best now. I guess that's a little helpful.

I just suspect with Cruz there will be severely diminishing returns the more anyone throws to him.

He was injured a lot, so it's hard to tell. I also wouldn't go by what happened this season considering how putrid the passing game ended up for the Jags. Hurns and especially Robinson had pretty down years too.

I can definitely see them rolling the dice on Floyd with a low risk prove it deal full of incentives.

Blount's agent needs to tell him to shut up. Dude has publicly committed to return to the Patriots to the point where he's going to end up with a Teddy Bruschi contract.

The Patriots are going to low-ball every big name they're connected with in free agency/trade rumors and sign none of them.

Then they're going to sign like 1,000 scrubs nobody cares about.

If 1-2 of them turn into nice role players everyone will declare them personnel super-geniuses again.

If they don't then everyone will forget the Patriots 2017 off-season ever happened at all.

That's pretty much how this works 90% of the time. :patssay:

Fair point, but it would be nice to see 1-2 decent-sized names actually sign with the team this offseason.

Our luck has to run out eventually with the whole "sign the scrub squad and hope one of them works out" scheme.

It works because many of the "scrubs" are being poorly utilized by bad coaching staffs.

I don't think that phenomenon is ever going to go away in the NFL.

This doesn't even rate in the top 10 of the Pats being sociopaths lol. Butler absolutely should get paid, but there is a good chance that's what happens this year.

If I understand the 1st round tender thing right, any team can give him a big money offer that the Pats either have to match (so he gets paid by them), or don't (so he gets paid by somebody else) in return for giving them a 1st rounder. A 1st rounder isn't nothing, but he's as close to a sure thing at corner as anybody is going to get, and he's only like 26. There is a pretty good chance it happens, I think.

Or they can trade him to somebody who will give him a similarly big deal, which seems to be what they actually want to do by trading him to the Saints for Cooks. I imagine the Saints would back up the money truck to get an actually good cornerback in their prime.

Butler only gets hosed with a low payday if nobody wants to give up a 1st for him or wants to make a trade for him. I think.

I'm not sure Malcolm Butler is worth a first. Or rather, I'm not sure a team would be willing to give him a big contract and have to give up a 1st. So I think it's more likely he just plays out his final year, with a slim chance he gets traded.
