I mean trying to "ban" that seems about as practical as banning piracy.

Which is to say, not.

If you're going to attempt to restrict access to it you'd need to go after the content hosts which would require international co-operation and probably won't be particularly affected either way by going after the end user.

Well, no ban can be absolute, but I think it's good that you can't sell anime child porn in high street shops in the UK.

I would concur, but that again is an issue of attacking supply, which is more sensible than digital content bans which tend to be directed at the end user and utterly impotent outside of national jurisdiction.

It's essentially running up against problems like drug bans and piracy bans and anything else that is incapable of actually attacking the supply of contraband. I think rather than trying to bang your head against that method with even more things an alternative approach might be advisable.

You should replace all instances of both with golden syrup.

This is my opinion from experience as well, I just chug golden syrup out of the bottle as it at least doesn't taste like hell.

Sorry if this sounds ignorant but isn't NI basically the equivalent of paying for health insurance in other countries?

It's a tax, nominally it's supposed to pay for pensions and the NHS and poo poo but they don't collect it in separate bags and cart it off to the local post office/hospital. It goes to HMRC and is collected the same way other taxes are, it just doesn't follow any of the rules of other taxes.

I mean, if you're interested:

quote:

Dear OwlFancier,
Theresa May's first Budget was utterly complacent about the state of our economy ahead of Brexit. It was complacent about the crisis across our public services and entirely out of touch with the reality of life for many millions of people in this country.

While doing nothing to solve the crisis in the NHS, in social care or in schools — the Tories have continued with massive tax giveaways for those at the top.

After the Tories delivered their complacent budget, I told them that it lacked ambition and fairness for our country:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNQRS5luzxg

Watch and share: this budget is unfair

Today, Philip Hammond and Theresa May clobbered self-employed workers on low and middle incomes for £2 billion, while doing nothing to clamp down on insecure employment and low pay.

Labour is clear, we would introduce a real living wage of £10 per hour and give all workers equal rights from day one to tackle low pay and job insecurity.

It doesn't have to be this way. Together, we can deliver a Labour government with the ambition to build a fairer Britain.

I understand what this sentiment is, but I think you're working backwards in justification from the point of "Corbyn was correct to do what he did", and you've ended with the position that you should stop fighting when you lose.

He represents the Labour Party, whose voters voted remain overall. I (and presumably all the voters who have turned on him) don't want or believe he should do whatever it is that Tory or UKIP or Lib Dem voters want to happen.

If a country-wide vote is the test of what a principled democrat should respect and go along with, how about the AV referendum? People voted for FPTP, so that's it?

I don't think there's a very credible way that Corbyn, a man elected on a platform of "democracy is great" could turn around and say that democracy is bad when it gives a bad result.

He's pretty committed to the idea that people have a right to democratically decide things and politicians should serve the result of that. I don't always agree with him on it but it's not really a surprise, he's been quite open about it from day 1.
