While I'm not interested in any of those games, I hope that they're really good and people enjoy them.

Things I am excited for this month: - Sunless Skies Kickstarter - Tangledeep Kickstarter whenever it launches - Waiting a whole month for the Stellaris expansion to drop in April - The humble monthly bundle, because I love buying games - Actually playing more of the games I own! Also for February's horrible malaise to leave so I can spend time being happy and write stories for friends and spend more nights being energetic instead of tired all of the time.

Gwyrgyn Blood posted:Stellaris 1.5 looks like it's full of really good stuff but also sounds like they aren't addressing ship combat/design or ground troops yet. So maybe I'll just keep it on the shelf until then. As I understand it, the devs are looking to fix that stuff, but yeah, not in this update. Up to you if you want to play the new update when it hits.

Goon review-wise we tend to have folks who write up why they like the game / why they hate it and that's useful to me!

bloodychill posted:And frankly, I'm not sure there's another way when it comes to small developers aiming for large games. Rimworld for example is a huge game (despite its simple graphics) made primarily by one dude who contracts out a small amount of work to other people. He's not particularly wealthy. The game is not getting made unless someone pays for it and very few publishers are even interested in what he's making. So we foot the bill. It's not optimal and I wasn't interested until it started to resembled a real game and then I jumped in. Honestly the early access label works perfectly for tiny indie games, and specifically for roguelikes, which are like the definition of tiny indie games. They're usually made by one dedicated crazy person and never come out feature complete, as there's always something new they can add. Anyways, there was an interesting discussion from one roguelikes dev and others about if he should release his game in EA or wait until it's 1.0 that starts here: https://twitter.com/GridSageGames/status/836792244845719553

CJacobs posted:People who have played Death Road to Canada: How fun/replayable is it? I am considering buying it but I don't have any friends who have played it to ask the opinions of. Very fun, very replayable! The core game loop of roadtrip cyoa sections + stopping to whack zombies as you scavenge for supplies is rock-solid. There's a ton of content in it - weird roadtrip encounters, unique characters, different weapons/settings to fight zombies in - Let me put it this way. If you dig the humor, you'll probably be like me and put in 20+ hours. I've won a few times but there's still more to see and do. Game is good.

I can get just as woozy from running around in the Witness as I can from the Talos Principle, oh boy! ...At least the puzzles are more satisfying, even if the game, uh, doesn't have a story at all so far. (Outside of the odd environmental storytelling.)

I took a break from playing the Witness to get on Uurnog (by the guy who made Knytt) and it's cuuuuuute. These boxes keep making cute noises as I ferry them around and there's a bird set of boxes that flies and I'm just so charmed by everything in this game, even when a gun goes off at the wrong moment and nukes half of my cube collection. e: Also just in case folks missed it Uurnog's on the humble store for sale. Dunno if it's going to steam.

CJacobs posted:I think separating art from artist is a lot harder for video games because the developer is often such an integral part of the game itself, not just in its marketing and branding but also its creation. In a lot of cases you can feel their influence while you're playing, especially if you're aware of how deep their involvement was in it. Fez is a wonderful and puzzling game with a great art style and good atmsophere, but I bet no small number of people didn't buy it or couldn't enjoy it because of the looming shadow of Phil Fish. Orson. Scott. Card.

I personally like it, but I'm not good at it so I rarely go beyond the first floor.
