i just bought this a couple of days ago. I had 9 bros all sort of equipped, gambesons, etc and I saw a grouo of 5 goblin raiders. I figured hey, 9 on 5, that should be doable even though ive read theyre tough.

it didnt worn out. they were wolf raiders. i killed the first wolf and thought id killed the goblin, so when i moved my guy the free attack really messed me up. my line got too spread out and I was picked apart.

new company started already.

if you do the lone wolf stary, what do you pick for your level up stats/perks right at the start?

do you leave your archers in light clothes or do you have them get every level of hand me down from your front line?

itd be nice if you could do one contract per town or something, that way if youre offered a delivery a few towns over, you could do local contracts along the way.

ranged question:

whats the to hit calculation when shooting into crowds? if youre just interested in doing some indisciminate damage is it better to aim at a second rank enemy blocked by two enemies in front or should you aim at the first rank?

i was camped outside a brigand base waiting until dawn to attack when i was attacked by a (8) Hexe group. The group turned out to be one Hexe and 7 melee brigand raiders. The raiders were all charmed so I thought I'd free them forba reward by killing the Hexe really quick.

I killed the Hexe first but there was no reward except what I took from their corpses.

surrounded by 8 alps at night time.

i kept losing no matter what I did, even took off all my armor (higher initiative and fatigue) and used 1h weapons to maximize the number of attacks and I never even managed to engage a single alp at melee before having half my bros in hopeless situations.

however, I had a guy with impatient and I read a comment on steam that alps don't make nightmares after a retreat is signaled. So, at the start of battle I signaled a retreat and all my bros got away safe.

kinda lame. whats the actual plan? I didnt have any dogs to release either.

also: is it worth keeping the golden goose for anything besides the daily money? i can sell it for about 4k, so I can get 4k now or get 4k in roughly 270 days?

That should not happen at all. Did you get both of the "war is over" events (nobles negotiating and celebration)?

yeah pretty sure. i had a prompt asking if i wanted to retire my band or continue playing and my end the noble war ambition ended.

i still was offered (and took) a "destroy a caravan and make it look like bandits quest"

edit: upon reflection that mission may not be tied directly in to the noble war crisis.

that could be. I took a really hard look at the map after the end because I really pushed for the noble house i supported to crush out this rinky dink 5 town having noble house. at the end of the war, my chosen house had swapped a pair of towns with the 3rd house and the 5 town house had retained all 5. a few days later, one of them flipped to my chosen house.

triple flail question: can it trigger 3 ripostes if all 3 miss? can it trigger riposte of 1 of 3 miss? does it do 3 overwhelm triggers? if i have headhunter on my flail guy, first hit is on body, does the headhunter perk effect the calculation on the 2nd hit?

edit: is this any good? I had a really killer looking orc cleaver but the fatigue costs were astronomical.

i have the same issue with my 6th archer spot. my first five guys are all 87 ranged attack or higher or have multiple stars and will hit 90+ by level 11, but my 6th guy has been hard to find. I hire hunters/poachers/bowyers as i find them but I havent been able to find a 2 or 3 star guy even in the high 40s for range attack. so far they have high range attack for level 1 but the stars are in initiative, HP, etc.

what professions are good to have on the bench for random events? ive got a monk, grave robber and brawler right now.

because they kill everything before getting into melee range? I can stack 5 overwhelms on two unholds per round? feels good so far anyway, maybe ill lose horribly to end game content but I got through the noble crisis this way with no problem.

has anyone ever done a northern raiders start? two of the houses start hostile and you need to travel across the map to the nonhostile house territory.

the nonhostile house on my recent start controls 2 coastal towns. one of which is their capital, so contracts there are locked.

ive had two alp fights so far. both 3 alps and once with an additional direwolf. they must have heavily negative ranged defense because i was hitting them way above the 30-40% displayed chance to hit.

it was tough but my bros were all so low level that no one had rally yet.

alps behave a little funny if you have bros in bushes that they know are in there but cant see. most of the time they dance around one step at a time staying out of your zone of control and use up all their AP without sleeping anyone.

other times they just sleep/nightmare your melee bro in the bush at the start of the round. it wasnt very consistent.

still looking for ijirok. also the black obelisk. and i need to gather unhold hides for the kraken.

the passage said something like

you burn the town and pillage, you go into a goblin temple that used to be a human fort and see a blind goblin shaman crawling on the floor, you stab him. you meet up with mr goblin predator, do a "son of a bitch" handshake and depart.

just a line that the shaman was crawling toward a pedestal with a baller helmet on it. you pick it up and have a false king or emperor vision. then mr goblin predator wakes you from the vision, do a "son of a bitch" handshake and depart.

I have just seen the fabled 3-star MAttk, MDef, Fatigue recruit. It was a peddler with base MAttk of 40. Hilarious. Even then I might have considered it (it's early game) if he weren't a Dastard as well!

I'm almost certain there's an event that can get dastard removed.

I'm a big fan of climbing mountains during daytime as an initial exploration step. You get a big view and usually uncover some bandit lair/graveyard. Your food consumption is doubled up there though so I walk just high enough that my visions pops to max distance then climb back down. Rinse and repeat with all visible mountains.

I have a save right before this fight, at a much higher number of days and I can't manage the fight. Lots of holy waters, etc. But I think I'd kept save scumming to do the fight with no losses but I bet I just need to accept losses will happen.

I took a look last night. It was played before the desert expansion and before the retinue stuff was added, so no guns/bombs. I do have a bunch of holy water and while I have some good bros many are fatigue starved and I've made 1 of each weapon specialist.

I took a couple attempts at the fight and I do okay at the beginning and get down to 12 bros vs. 33 opponents (mostly legionnaires down but also 3 of the necrosavants) once the priests get close enough my north flank's morale collapses and then everyone gets overrun. Might be I'm throwing the holy water too early or I've built my bros wrong. Oh well!

I did a cultist run. I'd have to load it and check but I think I have 3 or 4 absolute rockstars with the main chosen/prophet being a smidge better than the other stars and the rest of the bros are middling chaff. The events are very flavorful.
