Starting a new game to go hunt myself a bigass snake, and having a really hard time not naming this company "Conquering the Wurm" because I love dumbass references

EDIT: I have ascended. After 344 hours in this game I have finally managed to recruit my first horse corpse fucker.

EDIT2: No, nevermind, he broke his neck as I tried to help him down from his rope. :saddowns:

Anyway, has anyone found a Lindwurm yet?
Not me, though I haven't really had a chance to look yet. This run has been kinda weird and rough going. The game keeps giving me long-rear end caravan escorts that keep getting waylaid. I'm going through tons of tools and have had to replace several brothers too, so while I've been making pretty good bank, most of it has gone into just staying afloat. Enemy groups just seem WAY more eager to chase me down, in general. Playing on Expert combat difficulty though, so I guess that could be expected. Highlight so far was getting pounced on by 22 brigands at once. Fortunately they were all just thugs and poachers so were easily routed, but the 9 goblins almost immediately after really did a number on me.

Just as a sidenote, this is the route for a 1600 crown caravan escort:

I can't help but wonder if it really hasn't occurred to anyone to build a road going south from Sommerstad.

This game isn't much to look at, but they sure make up for it with the sound effects in a big way. The direwolves are chilling.

Yeah the sound effects make the combat a lot more visceral than you'd expect. Orcs losing their poo poo when they panic always puts a smile on my face.

The music is low-key great too, I love the different styles they have for various enemy factions. They're all very fitting. And even after hundreds of hours in the game I sometimes hum along to some of the world map themes.

I love the sound effects and music even if I'm not so good at this game. I guess I just need to keep plodding on, I just hate losing guys. At what point do you start going after places that pop up on the map? I know someone said a while ago here that they start right away, I've never had much luck taking one and save scumming makes the good drops dissappear it feels like

You can often actually see what enemies a map location has when you get near, so even early on it might be worth it to go take a peek in case it's just some bandit thug rabble.

In the case of forts that you can't see into, by my memory it usually trends towards a good number of bandit raiders, or hordes of armored wiedergangers shored up with fallen heroes or geists. Both of which are bad news for a newbie company.

Unrelated, a short Battle Brothers story:

I have the Greenskin crisis in my current game. There was a contract to just kill any greenskin groups or camps I came across, to draw out an orc warlord, and then kill him. Against my better judgement, I took it.

Before setting off, I figured the men could use some liquid courage, and headed to the tavern for some rounds. Bought the patrons one too, and they were very encouraging about my coming endeavor.

Thanks man, sage advice

I then proceeded to kill a bunch of orc young and some stray goblins, in small enough bands to not give much trouble. And lo and behold, before long the warboss took note:

gently caress my life

Fortunately, allies were nearby!

Except that they are actually running away COME BACK YOU MOTHERLESS CURS AND HELP ME

After running around the countryside for half a day like in an exceptionally terrifying Benny Hill chase scene, I managed to corner the company into a village convince them to join me for a fight.

Excluded from the list: A bunch of goblin wolfriders

The battlefield was not the most pleasant one, but I feel like it hindered them more than me.

:getin: but thank gently caress they didn't have ambushers

The loot ended up being a bit poo poo, since the soldiers did most of the work stole most of my kills, but at least I got the killing blow on the warlord. Let none say that Conquering the Wurm don't fulfill the terms of their contracts!

Maybe after this whole thing blows over I can actually set out and find one of those drat Lindwurms.

Well, I sure as poo poo just got a nice climactic ending to the Greenskin crisis.

Took a contract to break the greenskin siege of a big city. Took care of the siege engines easily enough, then hurried to help the soldier company that was fighting against two big greenskin groups. Arrived just when they were getting flanked with me in turn flanking the main enemy force, resulting in a huge chaotic furball melee. In the end there were 6 left of the originally 21 strong company, so I surely got there in a nick of time, like proper heroes!

Right after I turned in the contract, I heard the greenskin invasion had broken, so apparently their defeat in the Siege of Brammingborg was too much for them. Fulfilling the contract also brought me up to Allied relationship with the noble house, which in turn fulfilled my ambition, so I got a nice pile of loot as a reward. Or would have gotten, if my inventory hadn't been nearly full already so most of the new poo poo just vanished like a fart in the wind. Fortunately the one thing that did fit in was the expensive pimp-rear end helmet. Still, it was cool and fitting. Almost like being knighted for saving all the realm, if sellswords cared for such bullshit.

After a long dearth of unique items, I finally just found two, back to back in consecutive battles.

Both were orc shields. :shepicide:

Was a cool battle though, never seen one like this before: It was supposedly a standard camp clearing mission, except it turned out there were roughly 30 orcs on the field. Luckily, they were scattered all over in pairs or small groups, beating the poo poo out of eachother.

So uh, lol.

Got a contract to defend a town from the undead. Just as I arrived in said town, I got the event where one of my mercs starts harassing the villagers. Instead of telling him to fall in line, I wanted to make things interesting and just tell all my men to go wild and do what they want. A bit of looting cheered my guys up and earned me a bit of gold. The townsfolk didn't like it at all but, whatever, it's not like I ever visit this podunk hamlet anyway, time to get to work and earn my pay.

Except this town currently under siege by the undead horde decided it'd be a great idea to hire another mercenary company to attack the one currently standing between them and annihilation. I mean sure, thanks for the extra loot, but is this really the time?
