Trump thinking he could have out-dealed the civil war from happening is funny, but him saying that and then being unable to pass legislation with a republican congress is next level hilarious. At this point he is objectively worse at political deal making than George W Bush.

Our godly president has just signed an order lifting most of the restrictions on churches engaging in political activity. I have hope this one actually bites them. Organized black churches in the south have been arguably the most powerful force for social progress in modern history. Then again imagine all the megachurches phone banking for Ted Cruz. Ugh.

Sanctions are proven failures at generating internal change, but they work great at keeping countries too poor to invade anyone. Given the entirety of Russian history, betting on democratic reformers ever getting the upper hand under any possible circumstances seems optimistic.

The entire business model of Virgin America was "we'll charge maybe 20-50 extra per ticket for an experience where people are treated like valuable customers instead of cattle" and it didn't work out. People would literally let themselves be stacked on top of each other if it saved them $20 for a four hour flight.

Right wing authoritarian ideology is all about being simultaneously weak enough to be threatened by an all-powerful global conspiracy, enemy nations, enemy religions, and even social trends, while also celebrating the strength and power of your own nation. The more powerful you become, then your enemies must become even more powerful to maintain the threat, and the more powerful your enemies are then everyone must rally even more around the leader so that you can fight the enemy. As put by someone much smarter than me: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/1995/06/22/ur-fascism/ quote:8. The followers must feel humiliated by the ostentatious wealth and force of their enemies. When I was a boy I was taught to think of Englishmen as the five-meal people. They ate more frequently than the poor but sober Italians. Jews are rich and help each other through a secret web of mutual assistance. However, the followers must be convinced that they can overwhelm the enemies. Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.

There is no Constitutional mechanism for new presidential elections. It goes Ryan, Hatch, then down the list of cabinet secretaries by order of the department. And if you run out of those it's the apocalypse anyway.

Also if Hillary won Trump would be nonstop tweeting about how he'd never do what Hillary was doing and people would believe him. Trump actually got traction as anti war and anti corruption and as long as he never got office he could continue to be all things to his fans. I still wish Hillary had won but if she had her reign would be brutal and probably short.

The freedom caucus is making noise about raising the debt limit. If the debt limit does not raise, the banks melt down, then the rest of the economy. Trump on campaign said repeatedly that defaulting on the debt might be a good idea. Here is what I expect to happen: the freedom caucus will demand conditions to raise the debt limit. Our idiot president will support them. Rs will need to support them near unanimously because dems won't support whatever conditions the freedom caucus demands. All that leaves almost no room for defections. And it's impossible to get all the freedom caucus to vote yes on a debt limit even if their conditions are met, because like most people who fetishize money and the economy, they know nothing about it.

This country skewed right during the Nixon-Bush era but it skewed left before that, and I think we're going back to the left. Single payer is polling well, gay marriage went from fringe pipe dream to something conservatives and centrists are busily pretending they were always for, weed getting normalized, etc.

He was a Trump supporter though. Anyone on the internet can see the "alt right," that this guy was clearly in the middle of, is a notable subset of Trump supporters. As far as him being filled with hate, that hate comes from society. No one just wakes up and decides to hate muslims. Just like in the middle east no one wakes up and completely on their own decides that the Shia are actually part of the vast Zionist conspiracy or whatever. The right wing in general has normalized anti-islam views and now the alt-right is growing in power. Some members of the alt right will periodically act on the rhetoric.
