If you are falling for this in 2017 you are bad with life.

quote:

I'm seeking information on how to go about seeking legal actions. My wife saw a craigslist ads for a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 for 2,000 dollars. It was to good to be true. Long story short, they told my wife a story about how her husband died and she was trying to get rid of the vehicle. She said she lived in Montana. she told us she was using Amazon to sell her car. Instructions were sent to purchase amazon gift cards in order to purchase the vehicle. A few days later the lady emailed my wife saying she would need another 1000 dollars as insurance deposit. And that the car would be shipped Monday. We even received what we thought were order confirmations from Amazon but when we called amazon to confirm all this they had no record. They also mentioned they had been receiving phone calls about the same situation. They also said there was nothing they can do about getting our money back. Please reddit if you could steer me in the right direction. If you need any more info don't hesitate to ask. Thanks guys.
P.s. I live in Glendale AZ

I know you can order boxes with meal assembly ingredients in them, but how lovely would it be to order from a service that just gave you a random assortment of food?

"My box came with a jar of minced garlic, seven tangerines, an unlabeled can, a single chicken thigh, and three thawed freezepops."

This is my original idea please do not steal. There's somebody that would actually buy this.

I just realized there is no $400 device for squeezing your freezepops up, unless you use your hands like a pleb.

Whoops https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/69ks3a/girl_took_a_rental_car_out_under_my_cc_and_didnt/

quote:

So on April 22nd I'm hanging out at my house and my new roommate ask if she can have a ride to the rental agency. I barely know the girl and my other roommate had work so she ask me for a ride. She wants to drive back up to Washington DC for a day and get some of her things. Ok cool.

I drive her over and wait in the car in case there is any problem, after a few minutes she comes out and asks if she can use my card to put the deposit on and she will pay me back because she doesn't have a card at the moment. I think it's fishy but all of her stuff is at the house and so is her pet rabbit so I give her the card and she goes in for a few more minutes. Then she comes back out and tells me they need my id. I go back in and give them my ID and state to the front desk attendant the purpose of the car and that she is driving to DC to get her things. They process the card and put it on my CC I sign the little electronic pad thing and we walk out to the car. He hands me the key and I say shes the one renting it and hand the keys and paperwork to her in front of the attendant. I never saw a contract, I never said I was renting the vehicle and I was under the impression that all I was doing was putting a card on file.

She doesn't return for a week I'm pissed she finally comes back and apologizes says she ran into some issues while she was there and that now she has the card and will go pay for it. I'm not happy but it is what it is at that point.

Then the girl disappears again. Now she is not answering the phone, responding to messages, and I'm stuck taking care of her pet rabbit and all her stuff is still in my house. I call the rental company to find out if the car rented under my CC has been returned and they tell me that no it has not. In addition I am the only one registered to the car and she was not added as an authorized operator. What the gently caress. I thought I was just using my CC as a hold. WHAT THE HECK DO I DO NOW.

According to the rental car agency If I go to the police and report the car stolen I have to say that she stole the keys and that I didn't give them to her. Otherwise it's not theft. WHAT? I'm freaking out right now I can't sleep, I can't eat and I have no idea what to do. I have no idea where she is but I think somewhere in NC. She posted pictures to her facebook with her friend who live an hour away of them driving around in the car. Please help me.

If your group buy on the snake house falls through you could always go in for the mysterious unpaying tenant house.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/05/09/nightmare-house-zillow-listing-tells-buyers-dont-ask-about-mysterious-occupant-upstairs.html

Should someone buy the home in Cayce, a city near Colombia, the listing says that person assumes responsibility for the tenant upstairs.

It specifically states: "Upstairs apartment cannot be shown under any circumstances. Buyer assumes responsibility for the month-to-month tenancy in the upstairs apartment. Occupant has never paid, and no security deposit is being held, but there is a lease in place. (Yes, it does not make sense, please don't bother asking.)"

Joe Rogan had Peter Schiff on his podcast last week, and the last half hour was him basically ripping into cryptocurrency and why not to do it. If the buttcoin fratbros listened there may be fewer BW(virtual)M stories in the future, but not likely.

Nicehash.com, something to do with crypto , just got hacked and lost $66m worth of users bitcoins. Whoops. But they will work on regaining customer trust in the upcoming days.

Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.

Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.

Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.

We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.

We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.

While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.

Is "butt chugging" a thing that I learned from the forums?

edit: it doesn't seem to be on the SAclopedia and I'm surely not putting that into Google at work.

I forget the incident, some fraternity hazing or other college shenanigans, but a lawyer was on camera at a press event a while back to say his client did not force anyone to buttchug beers, or that his client committed some offense because he was under the influence of buttchugged alcohol.

On the way to work there's a left turn I have to make through a poorly designed intersection with no dedicated turn lights or lanes. Sometimes only one or two cars can make it through in a cycle which shits the lane up for everybody. I started avoid the left turn entirely by driving through some company's parking lot. It's longer but lets me drive through rather than turn at the same intersection, so it's usually a lot quicker.

Last winter I hit a curb or something buried in the snow and had to replace a rim that got hosed up. Today I did it again. BWM: spending $400 in wheels to save a couple minutes a day :smith:

This guy popped up in a few of my reddits. The only BWM part occurs in the first line but it is a lifechanger.

quote:

This happened because I thought it would be smart to sleep in my car and save money by not getting a motel.

My boss was coming back from being out of town the next day, at which point we were going to go to Wisconsin and work there for a few weeks where we had lodging set up.

My shoes were wet from walking around in the fresh snow a bit, so I took them off. I had the heat on and figured my socks would dry out pretty quickly.

Some time while I was asleep I ran out of gas. I figured I could just tough it out and figure something out in the morning.

My feet hurt really bad for a while. Then they just stopped hurting, altogether. I went back to sleep.

A few hours later, I tried to put my shoes back on, and found that my feet were frozen solid. My hands were very painful now, and were beginning to lose most of their mobility and sensation to touch.

I contacted an ambulance and went to the hospital.

Once the feet began to thaw, all of the pain came back. It has been the most painful thing I have ever experienced.

Doctors had hoped some of the flesh in my feet would be receive adequate circulation and some of the foot could be saved. This has not been the case, and both will be removed mid-shin on the morning of Friday. January 26th.

I'm looking forward to cutting these drat things off, as massive nerve damage is a lovely thing to be stuck with. I am also excited to start working with prosthetics.

Once I get comfortable with prosthetics there will be very little I won't be able to do that I could have done with real legs.

I was a pretty lazy, unhappy and unmotivated person before all of this happened. I am looking at this as a second chance. Every day I will appreciate that with a bit of work, I can go out and be active and do things that make me happy.

So, please do not feel sorry for me. Soon I will be running and jumping and possibly skipping again. Unless skipping requires a specialized type of prosthetic. I ain't payin' for some fancy prosthetic just to go skip around.

My "minor" gambling problem was resolved by tracking all my spending religiously, although even then it took a few years to fully get it out of my system. I wasn't necessarily living paycheck to paycheck or going into serious debt but I wasn't saving monies and was carrying CC balances. I still do Powerball and maybe a scratcher once a week, but it doesn't have the same impact on me as blackjack or the casino.

quote:

When my brother was 16 and I was 4 my grandmother set aside a share portfolio for us. As soon as we were old enough it was transfered into our own accounts, and it was only four years later that my brother dipped heavily into his and bought a new honda.

I knew about mine for much longer than he did before it became mine, and watched it grow since I understood what it was. By the time I was given full control it was already worth a ridiculous amount because a big portion of it was invested in apple, and I'm torn on using the funds locked up as they are, because Dad drilled it into me to leave it to grow until I'm forty something.

I don't talk much with my brother, he's done some stupid things to the family over the years and I didn't really grow up with him so all I usually hear about his life comes through dad. His new girlfriend works in law though, and I've received a formal letter from them both that the investments my grandmother made were designed to be for both of us to use not just for me alone, and his was only around $15000. The number is right but mine was only worth that at the time he spent it too. They want half of the value of mine now and his girlfriend has informed me if I don't give them access then the legal fees and fines would eat up my half and I'd be left with nothing.

The dividends alone support a huge part of my life and they've saved me a few times. If half of that disappeared it'd set me back years. I know it sounds selfish but I'm really used to having the extra income back me up when I've wanted to move. I've lived in four states by my own choice and I want to move and take in more before I settle down, if I ever do.

How likely is it they'll win and leave me with nothing? As far as I know there was no paperwork or will just my grandmother's word. She set up my brother's accounts when he turned 19, but she gave them to dad at the same time as my brother got his, and dad transfered the whole lot to me six years ago. For my share I have all the logins, the trading accounts and bank accounts are in my name, and the shares are all solely in my name too. Should I find my own lawyer and if I need one what kind do I need? I have an accountant I've used for years but this doesn't seem like an accounts problem but a law one.

Comments range from commending dad for not spending his kid's inheritance, to the GF being in serious trouble for pretending to be a lawyer.

You can also use aliases in Gmail:

Both go to myemail@gmail.com.

Not every system will let you register with an email containing a +, but most do, and it's useful for a) preventing scripted attack tools from reusing your creds, and b) letting you know which rear end in a top hat site sold your email address to spammers.

It does mean that I have to look up what email address I'm registered under sometimes (was it +facebook or just +fb?) but I use a password manager anyway, so shrug.

For sites that don't allow + you can also enter periods into your email address to help identify spammers or for other personal reasons. Firstlast@gmail, first.last@gmail, f.i.r.s.t.l.a.s.t@gmail will all end up in the same inbox.
