Since you already got your witty answers, they would bid to see who could use the least amount of Mechs / elementals / dropships, etc., to fight a battle. The one who said they could do it with the least got to attack and prove how badass they were. This caused the Clans a lot of problems.

Specifically caused them problems because it would turn out that the attacker was not as badass as they thought they were.

It's an interesting story device that explains why the clans don't just overrun every planet they come across.

Probably has been brought up before, but there is aot of lag right after every attack before it calculates, right? Game is good but that kind of kills some of the effect.

Kind of surprised that elevation doesn't really play in this game, I thought I remember that being a big thing in MechCommander.

Also LMs kind of suck and that makes me sad.

So, uh, does anyone know the save file locations? I switched the install file from my regular drive to my SSD through steam and it unlinked the save. Or deleted it.

Elevation gives you a pretty decent to-hit bonus, though?

If it does then it doesn't seem to show it in the tooltip, all I can see are the positives for morale and negatives for evasion and cover.

E. Ended up finding a position where it did give me that bonus, you just *really* have to have a height difference, it isn't as easy as "top or bottom of a ramp"

E. What is the easiest way to refit a destroyed part? Do I really have to manually buy and re-place every single component by hand?

Oh, so they're destroyed and and gone forever and not just damaged. That's fair. Then why can I equip them? Can I just send out a mech with broken trash for no reason?

When you replace an arm or whatever it automatically queues up those parts for disassembly, but if it doesn't you have to. It takes additional time to remove those broken components. You might be asking why that is, seeing that you're basically taking the arm off at the shoulder anyways, but don't ask questions.

It seems like Jump Jets really are the way to go. Evasion is such a big deal and jumping easily gives you four stacks, versus only one or none for moving normally as a big mech.

Is there a way to see what weapon is mounted where on an enemy mech I am missing?

In the tooltip for the enemy mech there is a vertical list on the right side. I believe that it gets further parsed down when you hover over a specific section. Or do you mean something else?

What settings do I need to change in order to speed up combat/movement? Getting slightly annoyed at how long everything takes to move.

Side note there was a mission to extract some civvies from a warzone and you need to escort them to an extraction point. The problem is once you clear out the initial blocking force you end up with no enemies on the field until the civ APCs are in the extraction zone. At which point the game spawns 4 light mechs right on top of the extract so trying to kill 'em off without losing an APC (thanks to surprise attack initiative making it so they're all going first) is more luck than anything else. Definitely one of the worst designed missions I've encountered so far.

Any mission with vehicles as objectives seems to suck. I had one where I had to blow up a convoy of them with a couple mech escorts. Easy. Except they move super fast and were on a road so it was less of an ambush and more my mech chasing them like a dog after a truck.

Better LOS indicators would go a long way, or some way to break LOS like smoke or something. Since "cover" is pretty vague here compared to something like XCOM we kind of need something.

This is such a small thing but it bothers me that you can't just pick a voice for your PC, everything is all digitized for your own mech. I want to hear my PC yelling at the enemy, not listen to her computer mumble about alpha strikes.

I am in the same boat. The thing for me is that my previous experiences mostly have been through mechwarrior, and there the strongest use for lights was as a target painter that let your not-poo poo teammates blow up enemies without getting sensor locked. Now that isn't really a thing given the relatively short distances that the fights take place over, they are a bit weird to work with.

Also one question, and it’s kind of embarrassing since I’ve been interacting with Btech stuff since late 80s and even have the boxed set with the marauder and warhammer (which are cool af) etc in it.

In many strategy games, there is a mechanical incentive not to just group your units up in a tight bunch, because some attacks do multi-tile damage.

BT has no multi-tile damage. Is there actually any drawback to bunching up tight to wail on some poor mech’s right hand side?

Not directly, but in a tactical sense it makes better formation to do a close/far/close/far positioning. The reason for this is so that fast mechs can't just jump behind the whole line, relying on you not being able to rotate without exposing your own side. You want to have the firing arc of your rear mechs to include the back of your forward mechs if your setup allows for it.

Captain Haust fired one volley and overheated himself into shutdown, so I poured enough fire into him that he fell over, so while he was down in the initiative order I poured even more fire into him and he died.

So long, Captain Haust. You had a voiced line and everything.

Dumbass.

I know it would break the game but it would be great if meleeing a downed enemy was an instant kill. Why bother with shooting a prone target, just step on it with your fifty ton mech.

How do you expose structure and what are the consequences? How do crits work?

To simplify, think of structure as health and the armor as, well, armor. Once you melt off the armor you can start directly attacking the health of a part until it fails and is destroyed.

Mechs don't really have a single health bar, they are made up of several separate places, so you can burn off an arm and a leg and it will still be walking until you hit more delicate parts.

That's actually your best move, especially if you have weight disadvantage or have used vigilance in that round. If someone has to sprint to reach you, they can't shoot you; you can use your reserved lights to backstab them, then scram at the beginning of the following round, use sensor lock to remove evasion pips then punch them and dog pile them and so on. If you are in the perfect position, nothing bara you from reserving everything till the last phase for a powerfull combined punch.

My god, reserving your lights until initiative four effectively gives them two moves in a row, one to move in and one to bug out.

Not being sarcastic I honestly never realized this very basic idea.
