Yeah I would imagine the responsible thing to do would be to just consider this year a mulligan and then fire him when it drops down to 4.5 if next year is as bad. While it's stupid that his buyout is that huge you should really finish paying the last guy off first anyway--by the time Les's buyout is gone firing Coach O will be nothing.

Looking at mcelwain recently it's been clear since the shark thing that the job, or at least part of it, is wearing on him. He was probably the most laid back HC in memory before this year but since he had to go on record for something that stupid he's seemed miserable.
