I'd definitely be interested in that glamour, but only the jacket part. I want a shirt under it, not a boob tube.

Because of the way FFXIV armor works, it'll come with the boobtube, for better or worse.

Also the Edda outfit is live now. And yes DRKs can finally get their scythes.

I'll say this: the platform boots look really good on Roegadames.

I haven't been able to do the new raid yet, but how does Ivalice work into the world of FFXIV? I'm curious whether they went with "a place with a ton of similarities to FFT/12 Ivalice" or "literally the same place, this is the same world."

(Actual rear end spoilers)

It is currently leaning heavily on "the same world" - one of the main quest NPCs appears to be none other than the "narrator" of FFT, Arzalam. And unlike a lot of the other "FF reference" stuff, a very big deal is being made out of proving that Ivalice was "real", and it is pointed out that the "church" suppressed the truth of the Zodiac Brave Story.

This actually lines up somewhat with descriptions of both the Second Astral Era and Fourth Astral Era in the lorebook, so the idea seems be that Final Fantasy Tactics is indeed set in one of those two eras of Hydaelyn, and the raid plot revolves both around proving the Durai Papers, literally named as such, are true, and making sure that the Zodiac Auracites - which are explicitly the same kind of auracites we've been using since 2.4 - don't fall into the wrong hands, which Ba'gamnan's group of bangaa seem determined to have happen.

Moreover, it's made relatively clear that the Rabanastre we visit is indeed the Rabanastre of FFXII - and it appears, from the descriptions, that FFXII must've been part of the Fifth Astral Era or such. Rabanastre is built on top of Lesalia from FFT. This is less clear, though, as the major focus of the Ivalice 24-mans is on the FFT plot; it seems more like the raid is a teaser for getting to visit Rabanastre in a more robust capacity later in the game's life (the sharp-eyed can even spot an aetheryte in the wide view of the city).

Arist posted:

Like, Ba'Gamnan and Argath both show up[/spoiler]

Ba'Gamnan is kind of a question mark because, what, unless it's an identical grandson or some nonsense, but even human-form Argath appears to be some kind of projection coming from his auracite. He's not too hard to figure out - the Rabanastre raid is basically a gauntlet of what modern Eorzeans would term "primals", or beings very similar.

So in other words, do I really have to leave my ps4 on for the 2 or 3 hours to download these 20 gigs?

edit: yikes. thanks for the answer bro

As mentioned, it's annoying but the download comes from SE's own server architecture - the game has to be running to download things.

You'll only ever need to patch once every 3 months or so after this, though, so as long as FFXIV is left installed on your PS4, you won't have to do this again.

TFRazorsaw posted:

Question: I’ve been noticing a lot of stuff in this game shares names with stuff from Tactics and FF12. Is this set in the same universe, or is it all melting pot references like Xande and Cloud of Darkness and whatnot?

So, as mentioned, this game is kind of Every Final Fantasy, but Ivalice stuff is getting a certain prominence in Stormblood and there are reasons to think it goes beyond "referencing"; at the very least, it's looking like "if it's a different world, it's virtually indistinguishable".

If you don't mind some spoilers, the first 24-man of Stormblood outright puts Dalmasca into the game, with a design very similar to the one from XII, and the lore of the Ivalice raid series more or less sets up that if Tactics isn't "in the same world" with XIV, a version of Tactics' events have happened in the distant past of Hydaelyn (XIV's world) that are so similar as to be virtually identical to Tactics itself and effectively puts the games in "continuity" with each other, if distant continuity (Tactics happened in the extreme distant past of XIV). This is straight down to Arzalam Durai being a character in the raid series and the idea of the raid series being a set-up for the framing device of Tactics - proving the Durai Papers are true.

The SNES games can be a little difficult for "younger" (by which I mean folks in their 20s these days) (gently caress im old) players to appreciate these days because you have to keep in mind the context of their releases, and if you aren't literally living in 1991-1994 it can be a lot harder to do that. VI is still pretty cool, but in 1994 it was doing things people were a little unsure videogames could even do. The final boss having a fifteen-minute long four-piece suite as his theme (and yes, that's the typical time on the soundtrack; with a standard double loop for each piece, Dancing Mad comes out to just north of 16 minutes when played front to back) was unheard of and would've previously been seen as an extravagant waste of cart space and perhaps even composer time, but The Gooch & Uematsu did it anyway. It really was borderline revelatory at the time, and I can't fault people for not seeing how it was such now.

Anyway I just spent the better part of two hours marking out to the trailer and whatnot so

I kind of want to say play the SNES version as that's the version that made people first fall in love with it (and really, you want to play it on a TV) but it's up to you and the GBA version does have advantages.

WHM being such a complete baller is the most pleasant surprise of the expansion for me. I am looking forward to WHMing my way through Sigma this cycle.

Also this "rigid roles white mage is healer thing" annoys me to some degree because it means these people didn't play Final Fantasies 4 or 6, where the primary white mage had dedicated "hit poo poo" buttons and where the people who started with healing magic pre-magicite were also magitek knights who were among your best true doom murder-heads, period.

Or, y'know, white mages in 1 blowing up massive undead packs with one shot of HARM.

Healers in FF have been doing The Business since the very start. People just need to pay attention to more than Aeris and also get wider gender/role/etc stereotypes from beyond FF out of their heads.
