Welcome to the Ballroom (Ballroom e Youkoso)
Centaur's Worries (Centaur no Nayami)
Made in Abyss
New Game!!
Owarimonogatari 2nd Season

Excited for these.

Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudou)
Kakegurui
Vatican Miracle Examiner (Vatican Kiseki Chousakan)

Interested by these enough to give them a try.

I'll keep watching MHA and Sakura Quest of course. Looks like I'll be watching more shows next season than currently (as long as Centaurs and Abyss are as good as I hope), although the fall season is what I'm really hyped about.

Heard they're doing Utena too. Don't gently caress these up, guys.

They already have the whole series subbed, in 480p, for free on youtube with what seem to be pretty good subs. A BD release would be awesome too.

They also have Dirty Pair Flash, Emma, Martian Successor Nadesico, Ristorante Paradiso, and some others in playlists on their youtube channel. All in 480p, to encourage you to order their higher resolution DVDs of course.

FLCL 2 trailer looks cool. I am now less scared of it being bad. The Pillows make nice music and it makes for a nice soundtrack.

Just finished up Fukumenkei Noise. Story-wise it's rather standard shoujo drama fare, and it does close on an "only the end of the beginning" note. However I did like the designs and the music, in general all performance and rehearsal parts seemed well executed to me, and in particular the concert in the final episode was really cool. It did have some cheap-looking CG, but not too distracting.

Oh drat, I watched the first three episodes and then completely forgot to keep up with this one so thanks for the reminder. I'm glad it didn't turn out to be bad, because "shoujo + rock music" is a cool idea and I want to finish watching it sometime.

Made in Abyss is really pretty, seems like it's going to be a pretty rad adaptation. Reg's arm reeling back into place made a very satisfying clank.

Vatican Kiseki Choussakan alternated between being unintentionally (I think?) hilarious and pretty spooky. The pacing was way fast, but it feels like it's intended to create drama and tension and not the studio trying to cram too much into their timeslot. Overall, it was pretty entertaining even if I have that feeling of "wtf did I just watch," and the soundtrack is just awesome. I'm gonna keep watching this one.

Ballroom e Youkoso is a well-animated, fashionable, hot-blooded shounen sports anime that everyone should probably be watching because it's really good.

drat, I'll have to settle for a fun cool show then

:yeah:

Judging by the manga, I would say to anyone worried about the more horrific parts: "If you can watch Evangelion, you can watch Abyss."

That said, I sort of feel like all of this is supposed to be presented in a somewhat neutral manner, dropping us into ordinary life in an alien world with extremely different social pressures. This is life in a world where humanity is incredibly physically divergent - it has its good bits, and it has its bad bits.

This is exactly the case, and also why I don't understand people trying to attribute political motivations to the author. Different people could interpret it seventeen different ways and they might all be wrong, because that world is so different than ours than any attempt at analogy falls apart pretty fast.

So, Vatican Miracle Examiner is kinda badass. It has everything!

- Hype OP!
- Mystery-solving handsome boys!
- Gory murders!
- More handsome boys!
- Satan!

and much more. It's the type of show that pairs well with drinking a lot of Communion wine, and I'm enjoying the campyness so far.

Does it accurately depict Catholic dogma and tradition?

Put it this way; any Catholics who watch this show are either going to laugh their asses off or get fairly offended, depending on how well they can take a joke.

Scene:
Two bishounen altar boys are in the flower garden. The tall blonde one brushes away the other boy's hair and stares deeply into his eyes. They discuss bullying from the other boys, and also performing séances. A dark figure in the background holds pruning shears, unseen by the young men.

Elsewhere, the main characters are spraying luminol on the virgin mary statue that mysteriously cried earlier.

Centaur's Worries is committing the worst sin - it's boring. A combination of poor directing, poor vocal pacing, mediocre animation at best, and a soundtrack that sounds like they paid a first year college music major two cases of beer to make all adds up to a show that feels like a chore to watch. I'm dropping it for now, even though I liked the manga for its wacky whiplash between super cute slice of life and utterly bizarre sci-fi acid trip stuff.

Ballroom continues to be great!

I didn't get the complaints about Centaur's Worries either. It's not the most high budget production ever but the animation and voice acting were both perfectly fine.

The voice acting is fine, it's the pacing and rhythm of the conversations that feel unnatural and forced to me. Maybe it's my fault and not the show's, but I liked the manga and find the anime adaptation awkward to watch. I'm glad other people are enjoying it more.

It's because they're going to hide the porn from the foreigners, Grouchio!

Everyone knows that hiding the porn kills anime!

I'm reconsidering why I dropped Centaur's Worries. My complaints were pretty minor, and I do really enjoy the manga so I'll give it another shot. I hope they do justice to badass centaur archer demigodess in alternate grubby human universe.
