also a show that becomes dull is worse than one that becomes awful because it can be harder to give up on, and feels like more of a disappointment since it is/was so close to being good.

By a mile. When a show's just terrible I can turn it off and put it out of mind, or even amuse myself making fun of it. When I keep seeing glimpses of something juuuust around the corner I think I'd really like and the show keeps not quite delivering it, that's when I start to go nuts.

Though I was disappointed that there was less of that than there was of pretty rote and boring political thriller stuff. The show spent a lot of time focusing on scheming and politics and trying to have the main characters when the war on their own, when for my money it could have been a lot more satisfying if it had just been about the main characters trying to hold the line against the Not-zis' sheer numbers until the allies won the war on other fronts. A good writer could get a lot of mileage out of just focusing on character interactions under the mounting stress and fear of a months-long siege, especially with a good romance at the center.

Ah well. Least the fanart was good.

Hina Logic seems like a reasonably fun and very pretty CGDCT show, and setting a slice of life in the aftermath of a more typical action show is kind of an interesting pitch. I'll keep with it for now.

I'm honestly not sure who that show's aiming to sell itself to, tbh. Most "serious" Girls Love fans I know actively hate the premise, and at 12 10 minute episodes it's not like it's really leaving itself a lot of room for strong writing to make up for anything. Meanwhile it doesn't sound like it gets porny enough to really compete with actual porn.

But then, I suppose when they're only making under 2 hours of it for a whole season they probably don't need to sell a lot to turn a profit.

Tbh the centaur anime feels so lifeless and stilted I don't think it is a very good adaptation.

Some parts are straight up emotionless line pause for 2 seconds then other characters react and say theoir emotionless lines

I don't think the voice actors are doing a terrible job, but yeah the editing and spacing between/around their lines is incredibly awkward.

You know, I would actually be fine with this scene if Hibiki had just ducked under the shell and then kicked/punched it into the air, but as-is this is really loving dumb. She blocks a contact detonation shell by... pressing on the shell cap. Yeah no, that just causes the shell to explode early.

Let alone somehow getting snuck up on by a Sturmtiger.

Man, they're really not dragging out the volume 4 adaptation. Wonder if we'll get any volume 5 stuff this season as well.

Volume 5 is a prequel and Volume 4 hasn't reached two of the new characters from the OP yet, so I would assume that we're going to basically skip 5 and get at least partway into 6, unless those new chars are anime-original.

I suspect that we're getting some of the fluffier chapters out of order, too. We seem to have skipped the Christmas chapters for now, and that seems like the sort of scene the adaptation would want to make a point of hitting at some point.

Honestly, that's what really killed Yurikuma. The show itself is actually pretty good if you don't go into it expecting it to somehow single-handedly legalize gay marriage throughout the entire world. I mean, it's not Utena or Penguindrum, but it was still a decent show imo.

That thread was an abomination though, and I would be surprised if anyone who read that shitshow didn't hate the show down to its core.

I'm kind of fascinated to see how I'll like YKA if/whenever I get around to it. Seen folks of all stripes hold seemingly every possible opinion about that show.

The only thing I've seen remotely along those lines is Symphogear.

Lots of people will say Idolmaster or Love Live, but I'll be one of probably a few to recommend Locodol. It's about a pair of Z-list local idols (hence "Locodols") doing cheesy promo stuff for their town. It's less about the music - which I can usually take or leave in an Idol show - and more about slice of life antics and gags centered around the odd quirks of being a minor local celebrity. The two female leads have a very warm and cute dynamic, too. Nice little show, needs more love.
