Does anyone have a link to that fake ad for a stompbox pedal that makes everything sound like lof-fi cassette-recorded black metal?

They stay in their lane, which is stadium cock-rock for dudes from flyover provinces who drive lifted trucks, and that's OK with me. I actually kind of dig Burn It To The Ground, honestly.

Some friends of mine had their guitars stolen in Windsor, ON the other night. A couple of rare Hagstrom baritones and more. Posting this here in case some Windsor/Detroit goons see these at local pawnshops or anywhere.

I'm standing in line at Long & McQuade's annual 'attic sale'. Crazy good deals. Some folks have been here since 1AM. I'm hoping to score a pair of CDJ2000nexii; if I can get them at this steal price I can sell my older-model 2000s and basically break even. Lots of guitar guys in the crowd getting real antsy as people walk out with Jazzmasters and poo poo.

I can't believe I'd never heard of a bass with coupled harmonizing strings like that before. Initially it repulsed me (and it kind of still does), but as someone who loves two-piece bassist-with-octave-pedals groups like DFA or Royal Blood, I'm a little intrigued.

Is there a 'Weird & Cool Music poo poo' thread? I'm talking about strange instruments, found object music, non-conventional playing and arrangement, that sort of thing. I know that's vague but I was thinking about maybe starting one because this stuff certainly doesn't belong ITT and I can't think of any appropriate thread in PYF. I'll start the thread in ML if you guys are into it. Reason I bring this up is someone showed me this today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu9PyoiArys And some of the haunting tones coming out of that thing reminded me very strongly of Colin Stetson's work, which a friend showed me a few weeks back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8rrPM01Jy8 I want to see more weird stuff like that.

Also might pick up their tuner because at $19 may as well have one and not have to clip on the snark tuner all the time. These are good ideas. There's a joke somewhere in here about the pedals being cursed with infinite follow-up calls from Sweetwater reps, but I'm not creative enough to write the joke, and you're probably already getting those calls too.

Which reminds me of some other Stupid Music poo poo (that I secretly loving love): Steve Stevens applying one directly to his pickups. You can hear it deployed a few times in Black Light Syndrome, an absolutely fantastic album of self-indulgent prog poo poo with Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It_fVucKTzY bees x1000 posted:An impressive amount of talent and effort put into making sounds that I do not appreciate. Spanish Manlove posted:There's also a thing with frequency discrimination in your ear/brain being poorer at lower frequencies Is this why I have trouble writing sub bass melodies until I move them up an octave? This is also a big part of MP3 compression, isn't it? Lopping off fundamentals because they take up a huge amount of data and letting our brains put them back in? GreatGreen posted:He's using really modern high gain tones. Basically the first thing a modern high gain tone does is lop off all the bass frequencies as early in the circuit as possible, leaving only the mids and highs, and then it distorts the poo poo out of those. That's how to keep the low end tight. You basically remove it, or severely turn it down enough that it doesn't clip the parts of the amp that generate the distortion itself (usually preamp tubes). Fascinating, this is unsurprisingly similar to how a lot of modern 'mid bass', 'foghorn' etc. sounds are produced in genres like D&B. And I will tuck it away in my head alongside other stuff I will never deploy because I have entirely lost the motivation to write music. Re: Mike Patton, this was my first exposure to the guy (other than probably hearing some FNM hits on the radio as a kid) and from it I can agree with two statements made ITT, that he is "a once-in-a-generation freak of a singer" and also that he is "the king of ... stupid music poo poo". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPJjKwbJado

Lester Shy posted:^^^ What the hell is gong on with his snare? Is that a video effect or a real object? I do like his stupid little upside down bell cymbal however. The weirdest thing about the drum kit is that there are no toms. Also IDK if it's pejorative, but as I understand it Epicardiectomy's music is referred to as 'wigger slam'. I will never understand the appeal of those ultra-low growl vocals. Even in actually good bands like Nile, it just makes me wonder if I actually have severe hearing damage and I'm just missing some harmonic content in the voice that would make it at all intelligible. I don't think that's the case, though. quote:I see you and raise you: Oh my, this is much worse. I think they're aping Bring Me The Horizon, right down to their anime haircuts and terrible band name. Is this a real song? Are the guitarists and keyboardist even in the same key? This is atrocious.
