I would blow Dane Cook posted:

WALEED Aly is “over” his job co-hosting The Project and is “eyeing off” the plum role occupied by Leigh Sales at the ABC.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Aly, who has permanently fronted The Project on Channel Ten since January 2015, is now in talks with the national broadcaster.

The report said that Aly may now consider the Ten show “a little beneath him”.

Last year Aly, 39, won the Gold Logie for Best Personality on TV for his role on The Project.

But friends say the academic lawyer and writer, who regards himself an intellectual, was thinking of returning to the ABC.

And the role he would prefer is that held by Leigh Sales, as the anchor of the flagship current affairs program, 7.30.

Lol, call him uppity while you're at it

Meanwhile, a Labor government doing good re the environment:

quote:

Plans by one of WA’s richest men for an iron ore mine in an ancient outback range are teetering on the brink after the State’s Environment Minister rejected them as environmentally unacceptable.

Stephen Dawson this afternoon revealed he had sided with the State’s environment watchdog to knock back a proposed iron ore mine in the Helena Aurora Range in the Yilgarn area, 500km north-east of Perth.

The proposal is being pursued by Perth-based company Mineral Resources, whose boss Chris Ellison has a personal fortune valued at about half a billion dollars.
After the Environmental Protection Authority in June concluded the mine should not be allowed to go ahead because of the “irreversible impacts” it would have on the range, MinRes moved to appeal.

But Mr Dawson today backed the positions of the EPA and the Appeals Convenor, saying they were supported by “the available evidence on environmental impacts”.
“After carefully considering the concerns raised, I have found that the EPA’s assessment was rigorous and comprehensive,” he said.

“I agree with the conclusions of the Appeals Convenor and the reasoning behind those conclusions, and have dismissed the appeals accordingly.

“This is not a final decision from government. I will now consult with my ministerial colleagues to ensure the social, economic and environmental aspects of this proposal are considered.”
In a statement, MinRes said it had received the Minister’s report and was considering its position.

The company claims the project will save 425 jobs and create another 1000 indirectly, while saying the mine would affect only five per cent of the range.

Mr Dawson’s decision comes after the EPA controversially tried to reject the Helena-Aurora mine proposal at the first opportunity, only to be instructed by then environment minister Albert Jacob to carry out a full assessment.

But in a widely expected decision, the EPA earlier this year recommended the mine not go ahead on grounds the three-billion-year-old range is one of the oldest and most ecologically sensitive landforms in the world.

Jenita Enevoldsen from the Wilderness Society WA applauded the decision and called on the Government to protect the range as a national park.

“We are so glad to see the new WA Environment Minister’s backing the EPA’s report – and rejecting appeals that the landforms, social values and unique wildflowers wouldn’t be significantly impacted by the Mineral Resources Mines that are proposed,” Ms Enevoldsen said.

From the ABC:

Antony Green's assessment...

He says at the moment 46 is the maximum number of seats he can see Labor getting.

LNP is currently on 36.

Labor will end up with more seats than the LNP, but it's not clear yet if someone can get a majority.

Latham didn't go alt-right until fairly recently. He was always an aggro wierdo particularly about women, but most of the stuff he talked about as Labor leader was standard centre-left stuff - e.g. Buzzfeed posted a video of him spruiking the Racial Discrimination Act in parliament back in the 90s.

I'm not convinced in his heart of hearts he really believes most of the poo poo he says these days (aside from the sexist and racist stuff, that was always bubbling under the surface), it's more like a case of late-stage relevance deprivation syndrome. He's alienated everyone else he was associated with up to this point due to his aggro wierdness, so now he has to pall around with people he used to poo poo on like Alan Jones and Miranda Devine, and other ostracised dorks like Milo.
