okay, hear me out... I'm a huge fan of arthropods. I'm a huge fan of the snips. but consider this: predatory shrimps. these Shrimps (a huge variety of them mind you) break the laws of physics to completely WRECK underwater prey These Shrimps are unbelievable. The structures of their forelegs (either snips or punchers) use tension to store up a huge amount of energy and release it all at once. They can break glass nevermind this one. I can't find the videos i've seen earlier, it seems they've been scrubbed from the internet for reasons I cant understand. I can see them on bing.com but I can't link them. probably just a conflict between Microsoft/Google to control information their strike produces incredible, otherworldly forces. Upon further investigation it's come to my attention that these shrimp are sometimes called "snapping shrimp" which means we have not only snips and snops but also the newly uncovered snaps Truly a watershed moment for the crab thread

hydroceramics posted:I did some googling because of this post and I learned lobsters can live for 100 years and can get up to 4 feet long and weigh up to 60 lbs. That's an insane amount of snip snop. 🦞 marine biologists believe they might be immortal under the right conditions, typically a lobster dies of natural causes because larger carapaces are difficult to molt so if you devised a way to assist them when they need to molt its possible you could wind up with a very long-lived critter

that's incredible! If this is real, it is ~145 years older than Alexander the Great and that's just the first interesting thing about it. Obviously the crab claw shape is masterful, but the pattern, that horse motif that blends into the red around the claw teeth is phenomenal. I feel like this might be misidentified too, to the left of the "vase opening" appears to be a handle. if that structure is what I think it is, this is more likely an oil lamp. e: update, I was wrong this thing is huge which makes it all that much more interesting https://twitter.com/archaeologyart/status/1557282754735312896 BasicLich fucked around with this message at 07:03 on Aug 19, 2022 |
