beep by grandpa posted:Your favorite poster (me) is mad there's no dk64/dkc block this year. Dk64 is the most magical time to post here. I'll def take dkc2 (the best dk game) over nothing tho. It really was. DK64 is kind of a crappy game but man, something about that run just made for the best time in the thread.

beep by grandpa posted:One more day left everyone SA is absolutely an important part of the GDQ experience for me. GDQ Twitch chat is too fast to read anything except one-word messages most of the time and also is populated by weird losers who trip over themselves to make sexist jokes at every opportunity. GDQ chat threads on SA are slow enough to read individual reactions but just as good at getting across the HOYP of the moment and doesn't have that other unpleasantness to deal with.

Another fun thing about the chat thread during the DK64 run was seeing the reactions of all the people who'd never played it as it slowly dawned on them just how big of an ungodly collectathon it was

ArmyOfMidgets posted:What was the BotW drama? The big BOTW runners tried to dictate that no one would submit a BOTW run to last SGDQ because the game had just come out so they wanted to have some time to develop and polish the run before it got the big stage exposure of GDQ. A lesser known runner submitted a BOTW run anyway and it got accepted and the other runners got pissy about it. https://www.reddit.com/r/gamesdonequick/comments/63wi8x/to_sgdq_staff_regarding_zelda_botw

beep by grandpa posted:Guys what are some more of your favorite GDQ memories A couple years ago, there was a run for a game called Lagoon which I had never heard of that I thought was going to suck because it was an hour-and-a-half long SNES RPG, and RPG speedruns usually suck if you aren't familiar with the game. I watched it anyway because I didn't have anything better to do and the Awful Games block began after it. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the marathon. The runner and couch were hilarious and they kept me engaged the entire time.

Also as far as thread chat rankings go it's 1. The ending to AGDQ 2017, between the announcement of the anime reward thing that generated so many donations in such a short time it broke the tracker, and hitting $2 million during the "hug the goat" scene in Undertale, poo poo was insanely hoyp 2. The Awful Games Done Quick block in AGDQ 2016 was the best awful games block in memory and out of the like seven or eight terrible games they played, only one in the middle was kind of a dud, all the others had me laughing out loud and everyone in the thread was having a great time 3. DK64 run in SGDQ 2017, for reasons already explained ITT

Soup du Jour posted:So none of the runs day 1 are really grabbing me, anyone have one they want to sell me on? F-Zero GX is a really fun and underrated game that's imo really cool to watch, and Im not even normally a racing game fan. The Skyrim run should be good, if only because Elder Scrolls speedruns are always hilarious bug-filled messes. I've never seen an Elder Scrolls run at a GDQ that wasn't hilarious.

I will never understand why people give a poo poo about twitch chat every discussion of AGDQ I've seen outside of SA is dominated by people bitching about the chat being in subscriber-only mode And there are apparently multiple people streaming the stream for the express purpose of allowing people to use twitch chat twitch chat for streams this big moves too fast to actually read Everything you say is said into the void, the chances that anybody will read it is practically nil The only hope you have of conveying any information is to be part of a whole bunch of people spamming the same emote at once What is appealing about that
