Dear Michaelia,

I am a creature of the night, a prowler of the darkness. I abhor the sound of machinery, of industrialisation, of work and toil. I crave the stillness of the wind whistling through slow-turning blades. I long for total blackness, everywhere. Am I normal? Jay, SA.

That last one there made me laugh. The rest were weirdly creepy.

How many tampons do these men think women use??

The way they’re all carrying on you’d think that 90% of government revenue comes from the gst on tampons.

Forget the companies with turnover in the billions that pay no tax - we’re going to bring the budget back into surplus by keeping the tax on tampons!

I don't mean to alarm you fiery_valkyrie, but with the downturn in the retail market and the shocking stagnation of wages over the past few decades... 90% of government revenue is generated from tampon taxes.

Do you have an iron? Cook one slice at a time. Also, you'll need a hair dryer, I saw this on the Living Room with Miguel.

On an actual topic however, could the underlying issue of the population boom be that the Federal Government controls the immigration lever, whilst the State Governments control the Education, Health and Infrastructure levers? My school just had a major upgrade and yet we someone don't have enough class rooms, or other school infrastructure to cope with the massive increase in student numbers. We literally have a class being conducted not in a classroom. The state government is apparently planning to bring in between 100-300 demountable classrooms across the state in coming years.

These are easily plannable eventualities and they're not being handled in a competent manner. It's every public school across my state. Every time I go to a hospitable they're groaning under the weight of not enough staff and too many patients. We just need more stuff.

So, what I take from this are Labor are competent financial managers who will fix the budget deficit and remove the systematic deficiencies introduced under the Howard government. Also, they're finally found some competent political minds who have realised the decaying 'Howards Battlers' were never going to vote for them, so they make a good punching bag.

The battery has killed profits from gas peaker plants, since they don't need to spin up as quickly the surge price on power is much lower and the battery is killing the power cartel.

Of course they want to stop any future batteries which would impact party doners.

From reading the article it's less 'killing the battery' and more 'giving that money to Liberal voters instead' by turning it into a subsidy instead of installing a virtual battery power plant on state housing.

Is a buy-back what it sounds like? Why would you give land away only to buy it again?

I think the LNP always blithering on about red tape just clicked for me. They want to get rid of regulations so it's easier to skim money for themselves and their friends, right? It's essentially about removing oversight for massive corruption.

I bet no one goes to prison for this, but it really sounds like someone should.

What happened to bring them here you two faced threadsters?

Good question. If we have the opportunity to bring refugees here, regardless of their origin, are we ethically motivated to do so? However, if they count towards the quota for refugees, does this effect the moral obligation we hold? Or are we just turning back the 'jumping the queue' argument used to shove boat loads of refugees into pacific torture islands?

From my side, I'm happy to accept as many 'refugee' south africans, assuming they are actually refugees rather than fleeing high crime rates, as we can take, so long as they don't count towards our refugee quota. I am especially happy to accept them if they can get here with all their cash and whatever intact, because, ka-ching. Then we'll send them all out to our rural towns to bolster the numbers there. Heck, send them all up North to the Kimberly and they can finally turn that place into the amazing food bowl they keep saying it's supposed to be.

shitpost posted:

"Neoliberalism" has been blamed for everything from rising prices, to creating loneliness, to making us physically sick.

However, the root cause of Australia's economic problems is better understood as the absence of free market capitalism, not its prevalence.

Cutting Australia's high corporate tax rate would help turn this around. The Treasury — hardly a bastion of free-market thought — estimated that reducing the business tax rate to 25 per cent will increase GDP by 1 per cent, or $17 billion each year.

Who really emerges as the winners? Business editor Ian Verrender looks at the push for a 25pc company tax rate.
This windfall would be shared among customers (through lower prices), shareholders (through higher returns) and employees and households (through higher wages).

Economists differ on the exact breakdown. But Treasury estimated about two-thirds would go to households, mostly through higher wages.

Even Former Treasury Secretary Ken Henry stated, "if the company income tax were to be cut, the principal beneficiaries will be workers …"

Daniel Wild is a research fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs.

Just quoting the most eye popping sections there. I was not aware that neoliberalism would be so benefitial for our nation, or that these corporate tax cuts would filter down to workers. I was shocked, truly. I had been lead to believe given a company tax cut most companies would pass profits on in the form of further bonuses to their CEOs and such.

Yeah, they don't have a strong replacement candidate, plus Turnbull isn't really dragging the party down poll-wise and he donated 1.75M to the last campaign.

He may be really unpopular with the delcons but the more level-headed members know they are stuck with him.

Do you think if there is a spill Turnbull will throw a tantrum and declare he bought this party and he bought the last election and if any of them want his job they can pay him back the money plus interest?
