Was disappointed that my otherwise cool grandma apparently voted for Marshall, but from all accounts the Liberals are absolutely miserable here and aren't gonna improve now. The SA Best ad made me ask my dad to kill me.

My JSP seems alright, technically they've helped get me some jobs (temporary contract work but still) and they seem to specialise more in assistance for disabled workers than actually finding jobs, but hell, beats having to fill out 20 job apps every month. Naturally, they seem underfunded. (office lost its admin person a while ago, and is literally around the back of a porn shop)

Just call it Population Growth or whatever and move on. They're right that there's simply not enough infrastructure to go around, and it's impacting young people born in Australia the worst, what with having no jobs and no homes and all.

hooman posted:Underemployment, non existent wage growth and imported temporary workers are a totally discussion about immigration policy levers than infrastructure HTH. Also again, these aren't problems with immigration as much as wealth transfer policies, casualisation, worker disempowerement and union busting. Immigration creates growth, who benefits from that growth is based on government policy not immigration itself. And then people get mad about immigrants or mad about people mad about immigrants and stop talking or thinking about anything else

SA Best turned out to be a wet fart, at least? Might console myself that at least it'll likely be a one-term government. Even if they gently caress everything up in the process. It's like clockwork for years, it seems so obvious: Labor builds, Liberals break.

Mad Katter posted:Yeah, the SA Liberals are a bunch of spectacularly boring gently caress ups who offer no leadership or forward thinking and have failed to articulate any vision for the future of the state. So what's the post-mortem? I can't bring myself to research outside this thread to find out how hosed we are, but I always assumed poo poo's going to get worse around here anyway. Guessing best case scenario is the Libs are floundering one-termers who've long forgotten how to do anything, though they probably smash as much infrastructure as they can on the way out either way.

Bill Shorten is kinda weird. Seems like an empty suit who actually has a touch of actual pragmatism, ie; you actually have to push policy people like and want to get them remotely excited to vote for you. Which given the current status of small-l liberals around the world is a goddamn unicorn.

Whitlam posted:Hooooooly poo poo. This is going to be an ugly election. Things between Labor and the Libs already aren't good, but this is just going to destroy any possibility of good relationships between the two. I imagine a good number of Libs won't be happy about it either - more than a few of them don't like Guy, Labor is never going to do them another pairing again (at least in this Parliament), and it's over a stupid nothing Bill that a vast majority of people don't know or care about. Sounds like a good thing to me, would be nice to have a centre-leftish party that isn't completely crippled by .

For context I'm talking about about SA volunteer firefighters, was loving crazy to see Adelaide suburb marked trucks showing up south of Port Lincoln. When your grandma's place is on fire, it's something else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-KjoqfsFo&t=15s But yeah, in this country, you need people who'll fight the fires guaranteed by the biome. We can and should pay for them.
