I don't remember the specific, but yeah the initial missile story put it in the complete wrong side of the world, and the story for a while amounted to "intercontinental ballistic anti aircraft missile."

I know this is missing the point, but you could ring any of a dozen different Chinese chemical companies and have a conversation along the lines of "Hi, I'd like some partially-oxidised epinephrine... yes carboys are fine... next month? Excellent." Where do the tortured children come into it?

What's this Michelson-Morley experiment he keeps bringing up? He says it proves the existence of the Aether and that the Earth doesn't move, but Wikipedia says it DISPROVES the Aether and says nothing about a stationary Earth.
EDIT: Also, even if the Aether DID exist it still exists in a universe with a spherical Earth that rotates around the Sun so???

Michelson-Morley proves that the Earth is not moving relative to the medium through which light propagates. Since it would be ridiculous to assert that the Earth is the only object in the universe that is at rest relative to the aether, instead it is taken as evidence that there is no aether.

If this is normal why don't they have a normal morgue on board?

They get better after about book 3, but there's still a fair gap between that and anything that could be mistaken for literature. But if you're not un the mood for light-and-trashy then you're reading the wrong genre.

Also, this tradition helped fuel the Satanic Panic because a lot of hucksters told conversion stories about how they were doing human sacrifices and all kinds of ridiculous poo poo when they were in the secret satanic cults until Jesus saved them. It made for really juicy stories, and evangelicals lapped it up. It got so common that some neo-pagan groups who were trying to fight the satanic panic started going to these hucksters' events and calling the police when they told these stories, because if it was actually true then they just confessed to committing murder in front of an entire audience. (The fact that the regular evangelical audience never even thought to do this is very telling.)

So did they get arrested?
