Oh God, I won't be able to handle months of "The youth should be dismissed, after all they overwhelmingly voted Chega" but also "Any issue you might have with Chega's program at all means you are being populist against populism no matter what you are or how much it affects you" at the same time.

It's pretty much going to take out whatever "All of them are poor sweet misguided innocent babies and that's why we need more investment on jobs and so on" stuff and just be "They're the will of the people and thus we must increase the cruelty to whartever the UK press client state wishes for", is it.

Someone unearthed a podcast that the spokeswoman did and it goes around a good part of the stuff Ventura was promising to teachers and how they have it too good, while he was being extremelly diplomatic and nice on Publico about the same issue. Please. someone, try and at least confront one guy about this so the handicapped and the disabled and their peers CAN ACTUALLY FIGURE OUT WHAT THE gently caress TO DO IN THE NEXT MONTHS.

Jesus, at this point I just change to cooking shows or RTP2 on the news breaks. Sorry Vasco Palmeirim, you're going to be my mental lifeboat until the president elections or something. Hopefully Luis Marques Mendes won't become our next President and maybe there'll be a consensus on some good stuff passing by, and perhaps prevent the libertarians from crying at the science ministry that they saw a tweet about woke math and suddenly half of the curriculum gets taken down or some poo poo to just "gently caress with Excel without people seeing a single somatorium or a neper number ever".

Aaaaand Montenegro won, currently negotiating stuff with CDS and IL. No mention on if Chega will actually be on charge of something. PS has kept to admitting full defeat and would rather center on the European elections, with AV threatening to not viabizile a left wing coalition even if he has fully admitted to giving up. Both BE and PCP aren't looking forward to it and have admited to going for potential non-electorial solutions. PAN has happily helped Chega viabilize the government in Azores. Livre has been slowly going back to making clickbaity claims where he says "We might work something out with the right on terms of budget" and gets reported as a compromise.

At least IL got major pushback on trying to put US Healthcare and Education poo poo here, let's hope they drop that poo poo since even Chega made fun of them for that. There's still a bit of a freakout about Chega "destabilizing the European project" but they're mostly a Meloni type figure.

Alright, who here is trying to not cringe at the future 50 years of Carnation Revolution celebration. "Well we mostly jettisoned everything from it, tried to push a narrative on how the real 25 de Abril was on the 25 de Novembro, and we now have two actual contras on the government. Let's try and center all of this as a freedom of speech clause. And also that the concentration camp wasn't real and the Capitaes de Abril had it coming. Boy in Striped Pajamas rear end poo poo."

I mean yes, but having Contras invited to the celebrations with the Liberdade institute putting on "the true oppression was when the labor unions would have a say over the markets" presentations showing up at schools is kind of a notable kick in the nuts.

Edit: It's weird seeing the press cheer on Augusto Silva leaving the parliament as "revenge for his reactions towards Chega", when they were being disruptive as hell and he didn't go out of his way to intervene. Then again news about came Rita Matias's past so this means we have now our own Nikki Haley\Suella Braverman type figure. This is going to lead to Rui Tavares being eaten alive in the parliament for all of the times he bothered to reply to AV, isn't it. Former PSD guy's gonna replace him, and I dunno if he's gonna be there to be the hit guy against any left intervention.

Belgian prime minister's iftar with Gülen-affiliated group angers Ankara

www.turkishminute.com - Thu, 21 Mar 2024 posted:

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo’s attendance at an iftar dinner in Antwerp organized by an association with ties to the Gülen movement, a faith-based group outlawed by Ankara, has triggered an angry reaction from the Turkish government, the Belgian Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) newspaper reported on Thursday.

The iftar, which took place on March 11 and was sponsored by the Belgium-based Turkish association Fedactio, aimed to celebrate the first fast-breaking of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan with hundreds of Muslims and non-Muslims.

De Croo attended the iftar at the Hilton Old Town Hotel along with other high-profile figures, including Justice Minister Paul Van Tigchelt and several members of the Belgian and European parliaments. De Croo praised the event, which was attended by some 400 guests from various walks of life, for promoting dialogue and understanding between people of different cultures and faiths.

In his speech De Croo highlighted the importance of initiatives such as the IftarMee project, which brings people of different cultures together to share a meal, describing it as essential for the progress of society. He praised Fedactio for its efforts to promote social peace and dialogue, especially in times of conflict and polarization.

However, the Belgian prime minister’s participation in an event organized by Fedactio, an umbrella organization with ties to the Gülen movement, a faith-based group that focuses on science education, volunteerism, community involvement, social work and interfaith and intercultural dialogue and is inspired by the teachings of Muslim preacher Fethullah Gülen, has caused a stir in Turkey.

The Gülen movement is accused by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s government of masterminding a failed coup in 2016. Gülen denies the allegation; however, a crackdown launched by Erdoğan saw tens of thousands jailed and over half a million prosecuted.

Turkish media reported on De Croo’s presence at the iftar, which led to the Belgian ambassador to Turkey being summoned by the foreign ministry and asked to make a statement. De Croo’s spokesman told Belgian media that the prime minister’s attendance was by invitation and had no political intentions.

The Fedactio event was noteworthy not only for its high-profile attendance but also for the message of peace and unity it conveyed. İbrahim Anaz, the president of Fedactio, emphasized the organization’s long-standing commitment to social harmony and human rights, especially in times of increasing polarization and populism.

The event also included a minute of silence for the thousands of people unjustly imprisoned in Turkey without a fair trial and drew attention to the ongoing human rights problems.

quote:

Ok, Raphaël Glucksmann is now in 3rd place in the French polls for the upcoming EU elections so I think it's high time someone wrote a honest portrait of him.

He's right behind Le Pen and Macron's parties and to me he's by far the scariest character of the three. And I absolutely hate and despise both Macron and Le Pen...

Glucksmann has a very revealing personal history. He was a key actor in several US-led color revolutions and their aftermath (in Georgia and Ukraine) and his father André is an ex-Maoist philosopher turned American-asset - a so-called "atlantist" - towards the end of the cold war (you can literally read, directly on the CIA website, a report on how he defected entitled "France: defection of the leftist intellectuals": https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP86S00588R000300380001-5.pdf

After the cold war André Glucksmann, the father, became one of France's staunchest supporters for American military interventions. For instance in this unreal Le Monde article at the start of the Iraq war (After the cold war André Glucksmann, the father, became one of France's staunchest supporters for American military interventions. For instance in this unreal Le Monde article at the start of the Iraq war (https://www.lemonde.fr/internationa...16794_3210.html) he wrote: "What a joy to see the Iraqi people rejoicing, celebrating their liberation and... their liberators! A few months ago, France claimed to be channeling the belligerent ardor of the United States into the 'legality' of the UN. Unfortunately, opposition to the war degenerated into systematic opposition to Washington... France put itself out of the game, ridiculed... In this respect, Tony Blair, who took the risk of confronting his electorate while remaining true to his convictions, proved to be a true head of state." Everyone can agree that this degree of apologia and sycophantism for what history will remember as one of America's greatest crimes against humanity is beyond nauseating...

Sons are obviously not accountable for their fathers' mistakes but it turns out that in this case Raphaël actually goes further than his dad: he not only systematically praises American interventionism abroad but directly participates in it!

For instance he started his career at the end of his 20s as the right-hand man to Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili after the "Rose Revolution", a US-sponsored color revolution. How does a young French man in his 20s find himself as right-hand man to a Georgian president in the aftermath of a US-sponsored color revolution? You tell me 🤔

And Georgia wasn't enough: 3 years after he took up his position with Saakashvili, he moved to Ukraine to help with the Euromaidan movement - a pro-US coup - following which his then wife Eka Zgouladze, who was a minister in Georgia, became a minister in Ukraine!

Raphaël is also, coincidently, one of the founding members of the "Cercle de l'Oratoire", a French pro-US think tank created for the purpose, I quote, of "defending US policy in the French public opinion and fighting against anti-Americanism" (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cercle_de_l%27Oratoire) In other words, it's a pro-American propaganda shop.

Raphaël is systematically at the forefront of all the US propaganda campaigns. For instance he took a leading role in Mike Pompeo's "Uyghur genocide" campaign, spreading the most ridiculous pieces of disinformation that even US officials wouldn't dare to claim, for fear of ridicule. For instance here on his Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/p/CdLpKMXDW_2/?hl=en) you can see a video of him speaking at the EU parliament and claiming that the "CCP" harvests "Halal organs" from executed Uyghurs for "wealthy clients from the Gulf"...

He's obviously 100% behind Europe's belligerence:
- vis-à-vis Russia (here he is on NATO's "Strategic Communication" YouTube channel saying "we have enemies, and first of all, Putin's regime": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ9raSU5N68
- and vis-à-vis Iran (here on his Instagram account he writes that "The Iranian Revolutionary Guards must now be considered terrorists and hunted down as such": https://www.instagram.com/raphaelglucksmann_english/p/CnrZwzCsQCH/?img_index=1

His position on Gaza? You'll have guessed it: 100% aligned behind the American position. He writes (https://euradio.fr/emission/20mZ-pa...use-humanitaire): "The fight against Hamas is perfectly legitimate; one has the right to defend oneself against such a terrorist organization. But we must also be able to remind ourselves of the obligation to respect international humanitarian law, the obligation to respect international law (...) true peace involves the dismantling of Hamas." Almost straight out of a communiqué of the US State Department...

Raphaël founded his own political party in France - Place Publique - in 2018 and has been an EU MP since 2019.

Immense irony - and I do mean immense! - in 2020 he was elected president of the "Special Committee for foreign interference in all democratic processes in the EU, including disinformation". The guy who is literally THE poster child for US interference and US propaganda in Europe has been put in charge of fighting foreign interference and disinformation in Europe... That's the EU for you...

Anyhow, we now have this guy in 3rd place in the French polls for the upcoming EU elections, which I find absolutely astonishing. Hopefully this will help folks make a more educated decision in their vote...

I know you're probably tired of me reporting on this, but recently the new PM (Luis Montenegro) was set in as the new guy in charge, and the news involved them getting pissy that he had to go do "some chore that the old PM had him do", and if you click in, it's just a checklist on how to evaluate if a future minister or MP could get potentially hit with a corruption charge, which is like... the main thing they cried about for years. Yes, standards are off and pointing out hypocrisy is passé, But Goddamnit, at least try to sound like you have some, portuguese news.

Yes I'm aware that this is Eco, aka the IL newspaper, the one that wrote a report on how elderly people shouldn't go out to elderly activities if they're not on welfare because "they don't need it", but Christ, you can't cry about corruption for nearly two decades and then bemoan a potential mechanism for that Just Because the press won't look into it.

With only the approval of IL and crossing fingers hoping that everything they push thru is Chega allowed. With a sizable left wing opposition. Which Chega has previously tried to copy PCP or PS measures and getting screamed at, but now they have the approval of the commentariat because they're now a good left and young hitting stick punishing them for wanting any actual "change".

I think at this point both PS being cool with as being part of the opposition and AC going to Brussels with a "yeah this shouldn't affect you as much, no biggie, and don't worry about Chega" was a good move not because they're not ... very much better but it was both a good hit against Chega's "anti-establishment" view and its going to make Montenegro's completely charisma-free presence be barely a blip on the EU. Yeah it impressed our press because they kept crying about BE, but it definitely won't impress the Financial Times people or any of the major players, as much as they wanted to put a german shock doctrine former finance minister's approval on it.

God we're gonna have him having to forced to say something about Palestine, isn't it. One ear on a hysterical, 9/11 mindset but powerless commentator shrieking about UNRWA to the morning news hogs, another on Borrell and others on the EU Parliament going "What are you talking about, what the hell , all of that poo poo was disproven weeks again"
