How does the multiplayer work in next? If I connect to a friend's session, play for a while, then later play on my own, is it the same character or is everything stored on the friend's instance?

My first planet was a -60c ball of ice, the second was a +60c furnace. About 1k sodium an hour to stay alive.

Bountiful world next door tho, which was nice

Why would you repair a drop pod, just join random games infinitely. couple mil later 48 backpack slots and full tech slots

Your single player goes back to your universe.

As for an explanation, every station you visit allows you to buy one suit upgrade. Joining a random game dumps you in space just outside a new random station. Dock, buy your slot, maybe barter with all the locals for language help, save and quit to mode select, repeat.

The low atmosphere/barren type worlds have metal fingers too. Have 2k gold and 4k uranium in the freighter. Never making launch fuel again

get like 10-20 systems in your teleporter by joining random games online and visiting those stations, then go station to station picking up easy missions that reward you with nanites and do them all at once. Stuff like "scan x rocks" or "kill x animals" are all done simultaneously. if you have 10 missions each telling you to kill 5 things, killing 5 total completes all the missions.

Yeah, that's what my brother did to get his 15 pages of stacking missions. Ended up rank 7+ in each guild afterwards too

Just had to run to the hills, I thought. But this planet is so hilly I kept getting slowed down by having to go up and down all the time, and the Sentinels always got close enough to detect again me after a while. After a couple minutes of getting chased through this dumb desert, I finally shook them by boring a tunnel into a mountain, and then continuing to bore underground until I happened to get out with the Sentinels still on the wrong side of the mountain.

Then I ran like hell back to my ship. The Sentinels deactivated just when I got back. :v:

I just got this game recently and i'm in my third star system so it is still early days. Is there anything like the visor scanner for your ship? It feels like you pretty much have to land all the time to figure out anything of interest around.
Is there any kind of beacon you can build in order to easily find a specific place again? Planets are so big that if I haven't specifically tagged something then it is incredibly easy to get lost in your ship, and be unable to find your way back.

Maps are LosTech. There are beacons you can build after you do the base building questline a bit, which presumably will persistently mark something. As for scanning in space, not that I'm aware of. Honestly I wish all trade posts were flagged when you scanned a planet, even if it had a reputation gate, because what sort of trade post hides?

Your bases probably won't exist in a MP game unless you're the host, and I've heard that unless you're the host your base will go away after you leave the MP session.

Or is there a list of things you can and cannot build on them?

There's a very limited list of things you can build on your freighter. With what I have unlocked, that list of limited things is:

storage crate (1)
base reclamation terminal (or whatever it is called that lets you recover old base materials)
hallways and freighter rooms
crops

I haven't checked since I got the large reactor blueprint to see if that's an option. Teleporter certainly is not, that's the first thing I tried.

Always warp with your freighter basically, it’s awesome as long as you’re not falling through the world, even then be sure to get cool photos for us.

Freighters have a very short jump range. Get some hyperdrive upgrades on a ship, economy and conflict scanners, and have the luxury of warping 600+ ly searching for the perfect system. Only end up using like 10% warp fuel per jump with good modules and you can just summon the freighter to you when you find a home.
