I would blow Dane Cook posted:

Daily reminder that George Christensen is in Japan trying to convince them to invest in a coal fired power station in Queensland.

This wouldn't be one of those power stations that's competing with agriculture for available water, would it?

Also any of you folks seen that article saying we have only 10 or so years to do something about climate change before feedback loops start loving poo poo up? I just feel so depressed about it. :/
Go read the DnD Climate Change thread if you want to be really depressed.

We are turbo-hosed, the only consolation is that if you're an Australian you're at least going to survive a bit longer than the poors in other countries.

I think Caleb should debate the front end of a nazi's car

We challenged those views pretty strongly in the past, it was a little thing called World War 2.

So UWA cancelled the trans-hate-fiesta scheduled for campus appearance later today. They concocted a bs excuse about security and risk management concerns, but it doesn't really matter - protest wins again.
The excuse was super good: "they didn't complete the venue booking paperwork in time"

Lol the government actually had to oppose it for him to climb down. Just imagine what $20 extra for rural voters would have done.

"swingers" in this sense being the Liberal voters who still think they are moderates.

He said the NBN model, under which users pay but profits are redistributed for social good, was unique in the world, and he urged other nations to imitate it.
Socialised utilities and services: never done before in the history of civilisation until the Australian NBN started a few years ago.

If they hold a spill every week or so, the Libs will successfully dominate the news cycle. This is key to denying Labor publicity.

How bad with money do you have to be not save up a bit for a rainy day if your current job is >$200k for 3-6 years, with loads of employer paid meals, travel, and accommodation?

with the Dutton / child care thing, isn't it the case that the child's parents are technically the ones who receive the payments from the Commonwealth? Or are there additional payments directly from to the centres?

Turnbull leaving the Liberal party but remaining as an independent would result in a hung parliament, wouldn't it?

Bishop leaving isn't a huge surprise, look how divided WA libs are between Dutton and Morrison, straight down factional lines. I think she threw in on the leadership for a laugh, hoping it might split the vote. Keep an eye on the WA Dutton voters, more than one turncoat in that list. Naughty Christian, groomed to be a moderate and all that.

I love how far things have gone that Porter's can be considered a moderate in the liberal party.

did Dutton let ScoMo win because he knew they were going to lose the next election

Maybe he was thinking that, and decided it'd be ok to lose as long as he could collect a PM's salary/pension.

40b or thereabouts.

It would have run over too, but probably less because it would have actually worked and people would want it

Plus lower running costs, higher resale value, and much more growth potential, and you won't need to rebuild the drat thing in a decade's time.

Both plans still suffered expensive backhaul and regional interconnect costs.

To be fair an estimated rate of return of 7% is farcical.
I get the feeling that's a relic from the Rudd era, when even cash deposit interest rates were nearly that high.
