I don’t blame Smith for holding out. I’d be apprehensive about playing football for the Chicago Bears, as well.

Stefon Diggs got paid and, like, everyone on the team was happy for him and celebrating. it was pretty cool. Probably helps when 13 starters are signed through 2020 at this point.

I took a Bears sabbatical due to John Fox + No Cutty but this year I'm back on the train. I hope Mitch is at least decent and shows some flashes. I think Nagy should be fine and I'm really excited about Helfrich I think he's a stud and should play a big part. Gotta be realistic though. Beat the Packers at least once. Other than that I have no expectations or hopes for the season.

Two things, kind of related: 1. https://twitter.com/BobMcGinn/status/1025457062665433088 Rodgers also praised Kumerow after practice. Obviously it's extremely early to conclude anything but I'm glad at least one of our corps of raw receivers seems to be making steps forward. 2. http://www.optimumscouting.com/news/aaron-rodgers-and-how-receivers-set-the-ceiling-fo This is an interesting breakdown of how different Rodgers's production is between the red zone, where his receivers' speed and ability to beat defenders 1 on 1 isn't as much a factor, and the rest of the field. Taking that writeup in account I'm starting to see more clearly now why the Packers released Nelson -- despite his connection with Rodgers, he was apparently losing a lot of his top-end speed, and keeping him around would have interfered with the development of the younger receivers and prevented them from getting more game time. Still really sad to see him go, though. Losing Finley was a huge deal for the Packer offense and I have high hopes for Graham (and Philbin's return). Bennett was a malingerer, Jared Cook was injured for most of the season before coming back to be huge in the playoffs. Graham seems to have none of the attitude issues Bennett did, and if he can avoid injury then I'm really excited for this season. Frankly I'm really excited for this season all around, a combination of Rodgers coming back from injury, finally getting rid of Capers, a very promising draft/free agency, it feels like all the pieces are falling into place. Knock repeatedly on wood.

I’m super curious to see how the Packers manage the coaching changes. Wasn’t basically everyone except McCarthy ousted? certainly there is already some familiarity with who was hired, and also Rodgers is Rodgers, but still I feel like the season could start a little slow for them. fake edit: nvm, just looked at their schedule and they’ll be fine. even if they end up 4-4 at mid season, they’re schedule looks like it’d be 10-6 at worst.

Yeah but I just was pointing out how you said "STILL." From 1983-84 to Today they missed the playoffs 4 times, went 4-2 in stanley cup finals, and sent numerous players to the Hall of Fame. It was a good run.

"Still" as in "The Red Wings and Tigers are both still really bad, as they've been for the last couple years now and the Lions are still at least contenders in their own division, as they've been for the last couple years now." I am aware that the Red Wings were good for a really long time. I watched the games.
