Also, Bar Ferret did in fact rock. There's a hilarious photo of my oblivious friend in the background suddenly realizing there was a ferret and then showing clear distress that he missed out on the holding. What a super cool little animal.

While I agree with this to an extent (love the south park "giant douche or turd sandwich" episode(s)), apathy doesn't help improve the situation at all.

I didn't vote until 2008 I think but started paying more attention as I've gotten older and even voted in the primary this year for candidates I actually liked (though none of them made the ticket :v:).

yeah, the libertarian dipshits that make a bad cartoon that should have ended 15 years ago are definitely who you want to listen to for political advice, because there's literally no difference between an openly white supremacist party and one that is not - both sides send you paper in the mail you can literally throw away without even looking at, so both sides ARE roughly the same.

"Hot take" is a new term, true, but I don't think it means what you think it means. Actively believing right-wing talking points about democratic candidates because it's easier than actually becoming educated on the tangible differences between party platforms is the "hot take".

Do you think that more people voting is somehow going to increase the quality/"goodness" of the candidates?

I don't get what you don't get. Voting is making a choice, just like buying products from one company over another, or getting your pet from a puppy mill or the local shelter. Some people don't like either option, so they just don't get a dog.

:iiaca:

If you don't do your civic duty to vote, you don't get to complain about any of the aspects of societal life that are resultant from the decisionmaking processes of the duly elected leaders.
That "not complaining" part doesn't happen, so those of us who bother to vote get tired of hearing all the moaning from the non-participants.

You're certainly free to not vote all you like, as long as you stick to the rest of the bargain.

That's not how it works.

That's actually the dictionary decision of how voting works: If you don't vote, there is no column for "didn't vote" in the final tally and "didn't vote" gets to pick exactly zero of the upcoming policies.

In fact, both sides are known to march with tiki torches yelling "Jews will not replace us" so ilkhan is correct once again. But at least he votes to support his party's abhorrent treatment of other US citizens instead of just letting it happen through apathy, and hell - only some of those guys wear swastikas, so basically painting the party that covers for that type of groups as if they're historical nazis instead of just current ones is unfair.

Ok, it's good to know that my gut feeling about being a loving idiot is 100% accurate

I have strong opinions and like to argue, but I rarely get genuinely angry about anything. I'm a very easy going person in real life, despite what my posts might suggest. When I think about how cruel our break up was, I get this deep resentment that I don't know how to deal with because I don't normally get angry. Or even hold on to anger for more than a few hours. I was hoping that telling her how I felt would make the anger stop, but I'm clearly grasping at straws here

My friends are telling me that I need to talk to her about this, but I'm going to maintain radio silence for the time being. Maybe give it a couple months before I try to find out what the gently caress actually happened. Find some other way to get this festering mass of emotions out of my head

Ignore her completely, this is the only way you can get 'closure' out of this that isn't not-closure, or not-the-closure-YOU-wanted. Also she'll be wondering where all the begging and pleading texts are, and you'll be busy having a good life moving on.

Hey question to ask without wading into console-specific threads in games, and I kind of trust the hive mind here a little more....

I am thinking about getting a new video game console for myself and probably also buy one as a gift to my father in law for xmas this year. There are some good black friday deals on and coming up and not sure if I should stick with Sony or jump to MS.

We both presently use a PS3 as our main home entertainment hub but not necessarily handcuffed to Sony, although I do like the Gran Turismo series. We do both own a PS3 and various assorted games along with it, although it doesn't sound like there is backwards compatibility so I'm not sure if that has any value. Besides, it's not like the current PS3 has to be thrown away.

We both have 1080p TVs, is there any benefit going to one of the "upgraded" consoles like the PS4 Pro or Xbox X for 1080p?

Not a huge gamer, but probably would end up buy RDR2 right away for myself, and I'd probably look for car racing games for dad. He also likes pinball games (like Pinball Arcade - owns every season in PS3).

Opinions for which way to go for the casual gamer? Online play is minimal, if any, we might sometimes play head-head in racing games but that hasn't happened in a long time. I see there is a good deal now for a One S bundle w/Forza.

Forza is significantly better than Gran Turismo in every facet, especially in multiplayer/online. There's also Forza Horizon, which is the general physics from Forza Motorsport, but casual-ized and made less demanding for crosscountry hijinks. I own both systems and have largish hands (not freakish, just big enough to goof heartily on Trump's hands), the Xbox controller is far more comfortable for me but the PS4's controller is a huge upgrade in ergonomics from the PS3.

I prefer Live's UX and general features over PSN but I'm also a lot more familiar with it. PS has Bloodborne (which isn't exactly 'for casuals') and also Horizon Zero Dawn which is nice but overall is just another Far Cry game when you boil it down and was nothing spectacular to me. The voiceacting is catastrophically horrible and took me out of the 'marvel at the scenery' mood. If you are picking this system up for driving games, the Xbox is the clear winner imho but you won't be unhappy with either. If you don't care about "exclusives" you weren't going to play anyway, which is the main selling point of the Playstation, then the games are going to be 99% the same on both.

Definitely get the Pro or the X, there's no reason not to because TVs are only going to get better and cheaper.

Also, buy Red Dead Redemption 2 immediately while you're in the shop.

I went to the dispensary for some legal LA weed and everything was 25% off. They also were giving out tickets for free donuts at a fancy donut truck outside and I got a bacon maple donut and a rosewater pistachio one for my wife and they were super good and I barely like donuts.

So, same. :hf:

What a game that was crazy. Never in my life have I ever seen a team score 51 points and lose.

It was insane. My buddy is Rams Superfan #1 & a season ticket holder and snapped up the tickets when the game got moved here from Mexico City - I expected a fun game, but have never seen a sporting event like that after watching NFL and NCAA football for 35+ years.

Rams fans are super friendly to opposing fans, it's more like a college environment down there tailgating etc - there was a good-natured KC guy in front of us and my friend and I bought him and his wife a round of beers at the same time that the Rams fans sitting next to him independently got them a round as well... Got him too drunk and he had to leave, so he missed the end.

Hopefully the Super Bowl is a rematch.

In other news, decided on going the PS4 over Xbox. Just waiting for the black friday deals to start. Unfortunately there is really nothing for the PS4 Pro in :canada: that I can see, so I'm leaning towards buying dad a myself both slims. We don't have 4K TVs and probably won't be buying anything until the next gen comes out, so I'm leaning towards just sticking with the cheaper slim for that reason too.

I might try PS-VR but I'm not sure if the Pro makes enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. From the little bit of research I've done, other than loading times there really isn't much of a benefit.

The Pro is a bigly step up from the slims in a lot of ways beyond the 4k textures. I wouldn't buy anything but a Pro or an Xbox One X at this stage.
