Do you think the DA got the parents in on this dastardly plot to bring a more serious charge in order to get the officer off scott free? How insidious!

Appealing to the family's emotions while coming up with a charge that's impossible to prove seems like win-win for a DA to me

I'm just worried the cop will get off on murder charges, is all. The defense is probably going to get a lot of mileage claiming the cop made a simple mistake and overreacted, which reaches the bar for manslaughter but not murder.

Sure is impossible to prove that someone who broke into another person's apartment and shot them to death committed murder.

A cop murdered Philando Castile after he stated he had a legally concealed firearm and made no threatening move yet the jury couldn’t even find enough reason to charge him with manslaughter. Pardon me for being skeptical.

it's always kind of weird that people will be like "the cost of the F-35 doesn't matter, if we didn't spend it on that its not like it would go to good things that's not how the budget works etc etc" and I always wonder why that logic can't be applied to health care unless you just want poor people to die or something

Those idiots double don’t know how the budget works because 1) money can be reassigned after the budget is passed by congressional action and 2) there is a larger pool of money that DoD and healthcare budgets draw from in the first place.

God I hate when people use that argument. It’s so plainly wrong. As if some loving higher power prevents the US from reallocating its own drat money after the budget is authorized and appropriated against.

Apple kicked them off iOS for being unable to control the vast amounts of child pornography shared on their service. Looks like they've decided to implement a blanket ban on pornography instead of hiring people to deal with it.

I mean, they probably were aware of that but they couldn't solve the problem with ~an algorithm~ and hiring employees is completely unpalatable for any truly modern tech company so their hands were basically tied.

It is 100% his fault he went to jail for violation of probation from his past criminal activities and using drugs. Just because your file says you were born here does not prove you were. His birth cert was given and he was released. There must have been something else that led officers to think he was not from here, otherwise most criminals would get the same treatment.

Man those "just world" guys are truly something else. Naturally the most logical conclusion is that the 50-year-old American somehow mislead officers into thinking he really belonged in Jamaica.

As a filthy American, but wouldn't allowing the brits to stay be a bonus to the EU as it gives them more political, economic, and military power by proxy and also puts a damper on all the trumpist talking points?

I’m an American too, but the controversy over simply allowing the UK to change its mind was that it would open the door to brinksmanship behavior from other countries (and the UK again the next time it gets a conservative government).

Kind of like how Trump has permanently damaged the US’s ability to enter treaties or agreements by unilaterally canceling them over specious reasons.
