Holland America Line fan here. Granted, it’s mainly because my parents are obsessed, but I’ve traveled several times on them and I love hanging out with old people. Norwegian cruise and Caribbean cruise completed, and debating on where else I’d like to go with my parents.

Mom and dad are hitting Puerta Vallerta next month via HAL on a Panama cruise - I’ll ask them what they saw/liked if you like.

I was on the Oosterdam last December, and comparing it to the Koningsdam was interesting. There were some things I missed on the O - the Dutch cafe, more spa amenities in the thermal spa, and the mini cabanas on the Lido deck. However, I really liked the grandeur of the O more than the modern feel of the K. Food on both was wonderful, I did more main dining on the O, but I did the Pinnacle on the K - both fantastic. Loved the breakfast room service - so relaxing! The sports bar area was a favorite for me on the O as well, just behind the casino.

My parents are on the Volendam next month, I don’t think they’ve been on that one yet. I really do love HAL - just wish the piano bar area would do a couple more songs made after 1980.

ATK was fun to watch, got some great recipe cards. The JoCo sounds fun, and it would probably be a shock to the system to see a HAL ship not filled with the 60-80+ crew (which does make it very relaxed and chill). Looking at next year’s itinerary, that’s wonderful to have so many sea days, that’s my favorite part of the trip.

Not sure if this will come through but this is a shot directly from our balcony facing down right now. Just a funny thing to see on a boat instead of the normal port pier.

My dad was just at that Walmart a couple weeks ago. Had to pick up a new SIM for his phone so I could get many unneeded updates daily from their stops through the Canal.

Silly burrito! You and braks make sure to hit up Irish Kevin’s for me - or a meal at Pepe’s (on Caroline St) today.

I wish we had seen this earlier in the day. By the time I did, we had eaten so much pie we were too full for anything else!

No worries - I realized I probably should have messaged you faster. Love me some KW

Funny enough, we came back to Key West today because Nassau had bad weather. Didn’t get a chance to eat at the Irish Pub because it was very full and we didn’t have a lot of time. However, we did tour the Hemingway House and good Lord did Braksgirl squee over all of the cats. :)

Two more days at sea and then home. Although since we had to come back to America we all had to go through customs again. Never had that happen before on a cruise and that ate up most of the day until 2. Hopefully that speeds us up when we get back to New Orleans but I doubt it.

They have sweet chonks with too many toe beans. What was I SUPPOSED to do?

I have a matching pic of the Hemingway house bed with cats - it made me chuckle. Annoying they had to have you do customs again, that sucks so much time up.

Watching for my parents transatlantic HAL on April 3 FLL/BCN is fun - not sure which end is going to fail first right now.

I mean, I love HAL cruises (because my parents will pay for it) and they’ve done a combined 500+ days at sea with them. I felt that they were incredibly tidy and always cleaning and focused on cleanliness. It’s an older crowd, but it’s a lovely experience.

My dad would be happy to cruise now - my photo memories show I was cruising at this time two years ago, and I’ll be happy when that’s back. And vaccines. And the end of a pandemic.

Booked the Disney Wish for Sept 2022 for me and some friends. All Sept sailings on the Wish are sold out.

We literally decided in the course of 10 to book our four cabins Friday morning and I’m glad we did because they were gone gone by that afternoon.

Staffing probably is an issue for some cruises, along with continued changes in country policies for entry - that’s my reasoning for why itinerary changes remain a constant.

Deals are always for incentivizing more bookings or as loss leaders. They are present depending on the line, but I would assume that they aren’t a guarantee at all.

There’s also a non alcoholic package as well if you just want to do alcohol by the order but have more than coffee tea lemonade.

Royal internet is good and worth it.

CocoCay is awesome and even if you decide to not do the water park, it’s a cool place.

I’ll be damned. Since Carnival stock was getting lower, I bought 100 shares to qualify for the free onboard credit. It took about two weeks but they just added it to our upcoming cruise. As of right now it’s trading at 8.52 a share but I plan to hold on to it for awhile.

Dad does a ton of HAL cruises and he decided to buy up 100 during the peak of shares dropping in 2020 and is very much enjoying that OBC now. Nice move for you and Braks!

Do you have trip insurance, and keep copies of all papers to submit for reimbursement if so.

Sorry to hear! My uncle got life flighted from one because he tripped over a deck chair and shattered his humerus and needed emergency surgery. Insurance is always a good idea.

Go eat in the Lido deck buffet if you want to avoid formal night. It’s a great choice and I honestly did 90% Lido and 10% main dining on all my HAL cruises.

I was so happy to not pack anything formal for the Disney Wish in December. If it’s just me, I don’t care - but family vacay, I have no interest in dressing up.

Walk off the ship and turn left, beachy is right right there. Super handy spot.

You can go a nice long way on the beach. Check to see if Jack’s Shack is open and grab some grub.

Or walk into the pool area there at Margaritaville if you need some pool time from the water.

Thanks everyone on Grand Turk, like you said, the beach is literally right there when you get off the ship, so we were able to grab some chairs. We did walk down to the pier and eat at Jack's Shack and that definitely was one of the better local eateries that you get in these types of places.

Best place we visited by far was St Croix, I definitely want to go back there and just chill for a few days. It was low key and sleepy, absolutely perfect.

I hope you used sunscreen appropriately and did not spend your next day in Amber Cove hiding from the sun like I did due to the wind pushing my spray sunscreen from my skin while at Jack’s Shack
