Nice and hot piss posted:I'm pretty certain the only branch actually hurting for new recruits is the army, given that they are the only one's who've actively been in the news on a constant basis about how they are continually not hitting their quota for the fiscal year. The marines, navy, and air force I haven't heard a single thing about recruitment issues, more just retaining troops. The AF is absolutely hurting for new recruits; they just haven't been in the news over it for whatever reason. I was at a brief a couple years ago given by the 3-star in charge of recruiting and he did a good job breaking down the numbers to show that out of so many high-school graduates every year, only a tiny fraction are even eligible for service before you even ask the question of whether they want to serve in the first place. The recent changes in weed and tattoo waiver policies are examples of how the USAF is trying to widen that pool.

The competitiveness of the program you're trying to get (ROTC scholarship, OTS...) will probably be a factor in whether or not they bother with the waiver process, though. I got into it a bit with a coworker the other week who claimed that blue states are all welfare abusers that suck precious resources away from the red states (literally the opposite is true) and he had way more time on his hands to come up with Breitbart articles and repeatedly scream "GUESS THE FACTS DON'T MATTER THOUGH, HUH!?" Another time a guy said I should have my clearance revoked because I said cops should be trained to deescalate situations and that their job was to take risk on behalf of the people they're supposed to protect It ain't worth it man.
