The situation in Kashmir is unresolved, but similar situations did happen during the Partition. Kashmir was a princely state and its Hindi prince decided to join India despite Kashmir being majority Muslim. Which sparked the '47 war. Junagadh was a Hindu majority state with a Muslim prince that choose to join Pakistan, but was invaded and annexed by India Hyderabad was Hindu majority state ruled by a Muslim prince who opted to be independent, but was annexed by India. Kalat was Muslim majority with a Muslim prince who also opted for independence, but acceded to Pakistan under military threat.

Jose posted:show your working http://www.nucleardarkness.org/warconsequences/fivemilliontonsofsmoke/ Following a war between India and Pakistan, in which 100 Hiroshima-size (15 kiloton) nuclear weapons are detonated in the large cities of these nations, 5 million tons of smoke is lofted high into the stratosphere and is quickly spread around the world. A smoke layer forms around both Hemispheres which will remain in place for many years to block sunlight from reaching the surface of the Earth. One year after the smoke injection there would be temperature drops of several degrees C within the grain-growing interiors of Eurasia and North America. There would be a corresponding shortening of growing seasons by up to 30 days and a 10% reduction in average global precipitation. If the Pakistani military hadn't completely collapsed the Nixon administration likely would have pushed for a longer conflict in the hopes of preserving Pakistan and weakening India. quote:On 6 and 13 December 1971, the Soviet Navy dispatched two groups of cruisers and destroyers and a submarine armed with nuclear missiles from Vladivostok; they trailed US Task Force 74 into the Indian Ocean from 18 December 1971 until 7 January 1972. The Soviets also had a nuclear submarine to help ward off the threat posed by USS Enterprise task force in the Indian Ocean. Which wouldn't have done any good anyway as the Soviet Navy was sent as a counterbalance.
