It was nice and hot and sunny over Easter but that probably means that we're all going to die. :sun::toot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZEfpFeGLSI

We got a break from Brexit though so that might be a positive on the whole. Now back to regularly scheduled fuckery until October.

What's Going On

(thanks Azza Bamboo)

Is that all?
There's also some local elections tomorrow so you should go out and vote in those if they're happening in your area.
Nigel Farage has created a new party called the Brexit Party and they're a single issue party whose single issue is Brexit an autocratic party machine with zero transparency to keep Nigel Farage's MEP salary.
UKIP has started promoting fash YouTubers in an effort to connect with the youth vote. The very youth vote. Carl Benjamin attempted to solicit child abuse images.
The UK and the EU agree an Article 50 extension to 31 October 2019. No reopening of the withdrawal agreement negotiations is allowed and the UK "must hold the elections to the European Parliament" on 23 May, or it will be forced to leave on 1 June 2019.
There's a party called Change TIG or Move ZIG or something but about three people have heard of them.
Houses in Lewes got vandalized for having Labour, Lib Dem, and Green Party posters.

Louis Lingg, May Day posted:

I do not recognize your law, jumbled together as it is by the nobodies of bygone centuries, and I do not recognize the decision of the court.
My own counsel have conclusively proven from the decisions of equally high courts that a new trial must be granted us.
The State's attorney quotes three times as many decisions from perhaps still higher courts to prove the opposite, and I am convinced that if, in another trial, these decisions should be supported by twenty-five volumes, they will adduce one hundred in support of the contrary, if it is Anarchists who are to be tried.
And not even under such a law, a law that a schoolboy must despise, not even by such methods have they been able to 'legally' convict us. They have suborned perjury to boot.
I repeat that I am the enemy of the 'order' of today, and I repeat that, with all my powers, so long as breath remains in me, I shall combat it.
I declare again, frankly and openly, that I am in favor of using force. I have told Captain Schaack, and I stand by it, "If you cannonade us, we shall dynamite you."
You laugh! Perhaps you think, "You'll throw no more bombs"; but let me assure you that I die happy on the gallows, so confident am I that the hundreds and thousands to whom I have spoken will remember my words; and when you shall have hanged us, then, mark my words, they will do the bomb throwing!
In this hope I say to you: I despise you. I despise your order, your laws, your force-propped authority. Hang me for it!

Also in the spirit of International Workers' Day, here's a message from the other side of the world that seems very familiar.

Abahlali baseMjondolo posted:

Abahlali1 have noted the attacks on people born in other countries during these past few days with great sadness. The attacks started in the Springfield Park area in Durban last week and have resulted in numerous people being displaced from their homes and communities. Two people have died.

We believe that umuntu ungumuntu ngabantu2. We believe that unyawo alunampumulo3.

We believe that we are people because of others. We believe that our humanity is defined in relation to others and how we treat others. We believe that how we treat others should have no relation to where they were born. We believe that none of us knows what the future holds and that any of us may find ourselves having to seek the shelter of strangers in the future.

From the onset our movement's philosophy of ubuhlalism4 started from the principle that every human being has an inherent dignity as a human being and should be treated in a way that respects their dignity. This is the foundation of our politic and it is where we draw the strength to rebel against injustice, even when the struggle is long and its cost is very high.

We are committed to the struggle to build a society, and a world, in which every person's dignity is respected, a world of equality and justice in which land, wealth and power are shared fairly.

We believe that there is only one human race and that the borders created by colonial rule should be irrelevant to our project to build solidarity among the oppressed and to ensure that South Africa belongs to all who live in it.

In all Abahlali meeting spaces we affirm that this is what we stand for. We affirm that a neighbour is a neighbour and a comrade is a comrade without regard for where they were born, what language they speak or what religion they practice. This is what we stand for and where we engage from before we even begin to engage our engineered impoverishment and landlessness, the repression that we face and the misery that we are subjected to.

We have always welcomed people born in other countries into our occupations, our communities and into our movement, and at all levels. We have worked closely with migrant organisations for many years. When there have been times of xenophobic violence, like in 2008 and 2015, we have always taken a position that it is our duty to shelter and defend everyone who is under attack.

We note that in Durban the ruling party has shamefully exploited race, ethnicity and xenophobia to divide and weaken the oppressed. We note also that in the lead up to the coming election both the ANC and the DA have made campaigning statements that are deeply xenophobic, grossly irresponsible and that pose a real and urgent threat to our democracy.

The politicians are deliberately building hate to divide us. They know that if neighbours are turned against neighbours their power will be secure.

We call on all political parties to respect the lives and dignity of impoverished people. Violence, discrimination and xenophobia have no place in our society.

As always we are committed to doing all that we can to oppose xenophobia. We call on all progressive forces to work with us in building solidarity between the oppressed in all communities affected by xenophobia.

Umuntu ungumuntu ngabantu. A person is a person by persons.
1 Shack Dwellers Movement
2 A person becomes a person by other people, you are your society and who you interact with, no man is an island.
3 The foot has no rest, your journey may take you to people you once ill-treated, don't be a dick.

My favorite brexit scenario is the UK leaves on soft brexit terms with the ~implementation period~ set to expire right after next general election, which due to unclear results is delayed until after the next general election, so every general election from now on will be about whether to brexit more or less than you didn't end up doing last time there was a general election

Thanks for the poll, but I think there’s a decent chance that Brexit doesn’t happen by that date without either an election or referendum happening (or without regal canine intervention). More ludicrous delays are possible, and there’s still the off-chance of a last-minute reversal of A50.

And it's the same, tired old poo poo from people who were willing to let others suffer under austerity (and continue to do so), or are so blinded by ":byodood: PEOPLES VOTE JEREMY PEOPLES VOTE" that they're quite literally willing to enable the Libdems another chance, or waste their vote on CUKTIG, and not thought far enough ahead to what they should do if they get a second referendum, and the result is still leave.

He's your average wishes he was a Tory voter (wishes he was rich) prick that happened to be found funny by enough people that he's wormed onto some panels and what not. Without that he's your usual down the pub "fuckin Poles and their comin over ere" dickhead.

I choose to believe that the beeb told them they were too lefty so they got that oval office in, and also added a couple of feeble, deliberately half-arsed lines about jeremy corbyn.

I further believe that there are so few right-wing comics because you can't be right wing without being a mirthless piece of poo poo.

Right-wing "comedy" is nothing but punching down so it's only funny if you're an incredible oval office.

Indeed comrade. It was an uncomfortable dog pile at the time but one I am grateful for.
I should probably apologise for piling on over the Jonathan Pie thing, I had you pegged as a wind up merchant and I'm happy to say I was wrong. :v:

He seems smart enough to avoid the Davidson pitfalls by not being as overtly "blacks, poofs, men-in-dresses, the Irish, WOMEN :argh:", but that's hardly much of a compliment if your jokes are tepid, "Corbyn, eh? He wants to nationalise Marks and Spencers - turn it into Karl Marx and Spencers" style shite.
