I ended up listening to "It Could Happen Here" this week, which is a former Cracked writer trying to predict what a new US civil war would look like. It was fine, but I mostly finished it to figure out what goes on in the mind of a self-described leftist who views the Ukrainian Maidan protesters and Syrian FSA militias as examples to emulate.

I liked the recent Citations Needed about vegans and animal rights, but when the second guest started talking about animality and white supremacy being zooilogical I was lost. That interview went from introductory to jargon heavy really quick. Is this what I sound like to people when I talk about Marxism and class conflict without defining my terms first every time?

I actually think I just misspelled "zoological," which I assume means tracing white supremacy to enlightenment ideas of categorizing the world scientifically. This can then be used to justify exploitation of other "races" on the basis of "scientifically" determined inferiority, Like, I agree with that, but the slave trade and exploitation came before that conception was firmly established, and required the justification as it developed and grew. But my misspelling may actually be the way the author used it. I don't know. I might actually buy their book now though to find out honestly.

This exchange on the last Citations Needed killed menot an exact quote posted:Nima: Why do you think the corporate media focuses disproportionately on conflict between different parts of the Left when it comes to topics such as the Green New Deal? That was such a softball question obviously designed to lead to a discussion the motivations and allegiances of bourgeois media. That the topic was completely dodged honestly dumbfounded me. I used to listen to Belabored which the guest hosts, but I stopped a while back because of the production quality. I remember it being pretty good, if sort of dry, besides that, so I was shocked to be this disappointed with the guest.

The latest Unauthorized Disclosure had the guest argue that Obama's mom was at least a CIA asset in Indonesia. Her work was funded USAID and other US soft power institutions. The interviewer acknowledged that right wingers have been the main proponents of this idea, but says the left should pay more attention to it. Since I've got Epstein brain I of course 100% believe it.

After Matt auditioned to be the propagandist for a military junta ruled by Admiral Sestak, Amber needed to return to claim her position as the Chapo with the worst takes. Matt's question on why China ignores the UN, IMF etc was on point too. those are anglo world institutions. China will respect and reinforce them when they start doing what China wants. all high ranking US military officers are bad guys until proven otherwise. so like, smedley butler is alright and i can't think of any others. this probably holds true for all officers too be honest

the problematic aspect of Rojava is that it's only survived because of protection by NATO air forces. It has that protection because it allows the US and NATO to have another foothold in the middle east and it divides one of the most productive regions of Syria from the besieged central government this compromise was understandable when the YPG was holding off a genocidal ISIS advance, but its been years since that was a reality. the desire to paint Rojava as some sort of settler colonial project is weird. it seems to me that you maybe can make a case for Kurdish chauvinism, but if you want to criticize Rojava there's more than enough there without getting into any of that

Chapo interview with the author of the book about how Manson was a CIA asset was decent, reminded me more of a War Nerd ep. lol that it took a few minutes to get him to admit that maybe the US actually did use biological weapons in Korea, and that captured US troops weren't brainwashed. US imperialism is a hell of a drug. You can believe the CIA is literally running serial killer cults, but the US committing war crimes still seems a bit fringe.

The Princeton professor citing William Buckley as an example of a reasonable participant in a debate on the recent episode of Citations Needed was sort of funny. I know she was referring to his debates with James Baldwin, but I kept thinking of how Buckley literally threatened to assault Gore Vidal on live television. I felt the episode would have been better if it focused on the historical development of the reactionary deployment of free speech rhetoric, instead of the light theoretical focus it had.
