Is there any new information in it that makes it worth exposing myself to Rogan radiation, or does he just talk more about the process of writing it?

I have a question about amphetamines. They’re mentioned ITT in connection to Manson, Jonestown and a lot of these 60’s and 70’s CIA experiments. What’s the mechanism of action?

I ask because when I moved to STA I was hooked up with Dexedrine Go Pills, as were what seemed like all of the guys in the EW Squadron, CSOR, CANSOFCOM etc. They just make you a hard charger right? It takes something else to have some sort of nefarious effect?

They're CNS stimulants that work primarily on the dopamine and noradrenaline systems.

Used sparingly and/or at therapeutic levels they increase alertness, motivation, concentration, and generally allow you to push harder physically and mentally and resist fatigue.

It's not that "something else" is required to create bad effects, it's more that tolerance develops rapidly and falls off very slowly, and the euphoric effects largely cease after repeated doses unless you increase the dose. If you're constantly chasing the "high" feeling then you're going to keep increasing your dose, and amphetamine (and especially methamphetamine, its close cousin) are notorious for causing psychosis when abused, either chronically or acutely.

This is a bit simplified, but hopefully gets the gist across

Thanks. 60-80mg a day is a therapeutic dose, I hope?

I'm pretty sure that 60mg a day is the tippy-top of "therapeutic" - google certainly says so - but you'd be better off asking an ADHD sufferer about it, I think. They give meth to severe narcoleptics, after all - different doses for different folkses.

Frosted Flake posted:

They’re also in the CFHS treatment protocol for Traumatic Brain Injuries, is that just to offset the drowsiness and TBI cognitive effects, or is there a risk there too?

Do you know, I never knew about that, that's pretty interesting! Needless to say I really couldn't tell you anything about the risks of using stimulants for that purpose.

Fly Molo posted:

that's an interesting question, and I think the answer lies in 3 interrelated areas:

1. cycles of abuse. i'm sure physical abuse also took place, but emotional abuse is even more self-reinforcing in some ways. lovely distant fathers raise their sons to be even shittier more distant fathers, and the cycle goes on and on. unless somebody takes positive action to break that cycle of abuse, and more importantly, reconcile and acknowledge the damage it caused for generations, that cycle's just going to keep going.

2. the psychology of empire. much has been written about how running an overseas colonial empire affected the psychology of american, french, and spanish societies, where colonialism warped society around itself like gravity around a black hole, fueling the rise of elaborate racial theories other such nonsense to sustain itself.

the british were certainly no exception. and what elements did their imperial project lean on as "positive" reasons for the british empire? stability, strength, seamanship, and most critically, rational rule. how were their colonial enemies portrayed? passionate savages, barbarians ruled by their horniness and their hearts and not their heads.

sure, those ideas might have originated as a reason to subdue india and africa, for example, but the ideas don't go away. they just keep going. at a certain point, british society internalizes the concept that an ideal british man is some sort of spherical frictionless rationality orb, without unnecessary 'frivolities' like love or vulnerability or emotional outbursts.

3. britain has had a number of massive disasters in the last few centuries, but none severe enough to force serious inward reflection and changes. britain hasn't been invaded and lost millions of people. britain lost plenty of battles, sure, but because they got lucky at trafalgar, waterloo, ww1, and ww2, these ideas just kept getting reinforced again and again. look at how british history reflects back on those conflicts:

- how did britain beat napoleon? by never giving up, working the long game, being the best sailors ever!!, and keeping a stiff upper lip.
- how did britain win in ww1? by never giving up, being the best sailors ever, and keeping a stiff upper lip.
- how did britain win in ww2? by never giving up, being the best sailors ever, and keeping a stiff upper lip.

that's not how those conflicts actually played out imo, but that's the national myth. if britain had actually been invaded and lost everything, sure, maybe britain would have had a come to jesus moment a hundred years ago and realized this national myth is bogus. maybe even gone the way of spain and had another civil war or two after losing everything. but they didn't, and even decolonization (while disastrous for british imperialists) was managed in a way that kept british prestige and finance somewhat intact while continuing to divide and rule their 'illogical' subjects. britain kept winning, and doubling down, and winning again, etc.

so those lovely unemotional dads aren't just built that way because their own dads were lovely. they actively have a huge chunk of british society telling them "hell yeah dude cold fish rule!! britain strong" for centuries. that is the criteria on which kings and princes are judged as 'tough manly men' or 'limp-waisted pussies' at the time, and the generations of rulers trying to live up to that ideal are certainly aware of what the public (and the aristocracy) expects them to be. which is why we now have stories about how queen elizabeth never cried and real british rulers are unemotional cold fish.

Speaking as a disgusting britisher this is very well observered

idk if it’s epstein thread material (correct me if I’m wrong?), but basically they tested putting the omicron spike protein on a wild-type Covid virus, instead of it’s normal wildtype spike. in testing it was insanely lethal- ‘normal’ omicron made the rats mildly sick, while this omicron spike/wildtype version had an 80% fatality rate. i don’t know if that implies anything sinister, but it definitely indicates we got lucky with the combination of mutations in omicron, and it’s got a lot of room to become more and more lethal.

Sometimes I think about that potential variant they modelled that had higher affinity for ACE receptors than any antibody. The one they (IIRC) predicted would have, like, at least a 30% fatality rate.

I try not to think about that.
