Sanders wins next years election, starting a socialist pact between the UK and USA that deals with the environmental catastrophe by building a fake moon made of recycled plastic to permanently eclipse the sun, although this is hit by a meteor and sends tons of radioactive molten plastic raining down across the planet.

The House of Lords is pretty much Gormenghast. Managed to convince my mum and brother to vote Labour last night. My brother doesn't care about politics and my mum doesn't like Corbyn and wants to vote Greens to save the planet, but after much cajoling and reminding how we used benefits growing up they came round.

Josef bugman posted:Apparently I used to do this as a kid, like if I saw something I found embarrasing I would just leave the room or put my fingers in my ears to block things out. I think the worst is when I am trying to watch "cringe" comedy and I just can't do it without feeling very sorry for the people on screen. Maybe that could be a way of getting more used to conflict? Watching The Thick of It could be like aversion therapy. But - I used to blush a lot, mostly when people would make suggestive comments to me, flirt and so on, which further embarassed me and making me blush more. I then got a job teaching life drawing to hen party's, so every session I'd be stood in front of 20 or so women I'd never met before (or meet again) and had a whole host of sexual comments aimed at me. I quickly got over blushing this way, particularly as each session was self-contained and in the end I knew it didn't really matter. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do to experience conflict in short bursts where you won't meet people again (besides sports?) but could be worth thinking of situations where you could experience it in short bursts and have more time afterwards to analyse how you felt. Your local library should have books about CBT that might be useful too - the image at the top of this article is a decent summary: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/gymqpm/overwatch-therapy-mood-log-worksheet (and you could ask your HR department if there's any councilling or help they offer as part of your contract) Don't beat yourself up about it though, changing yourself takes a lifetime so even a tiny amount of progress is good. Plus the state of the news these days also increases anxiety, so maybe take a weekend off. Take it easy. e: They are making a live action prequel to 101 Dalmatians about Cruella de Vil, sort of like Joker with more animal cruelty. justcola fucked around with this message at 07:48 on Sep 6, 2019 |

Every time I find an Indian restaurant in another country I get excited, wondering if it will be the one, but end up with a pile of greasy slop with too much fenugreek and cumin in, half a potato and over-boiled peas shoved into the meal like it's the 70s, chapattis that are just thick tortillas, onion bhajis that collapse into sad piles of oil. Pathetic. Course, I know British Indian food isn't like authentic Indian food, but I like the range of Pakistan dishes here and the atmosphere of a good place. Mine said I looked like a taxonomist, though the closest I've gotten to that is Pokemon. Though I've been looking through a list of Tory MPs to see if there's any rare or shiny ones I may have missed, though I think I only hear about them if in scandals. If you click through you can get full length portraits of them in glorious high definition, all wearing the same navy suit jacket with trousers pulled up to their nipples.

Last few pages have been interesting to read as I've been thinking along similar lines - I have two groups of friends. One group I've known for years, I can have a laugh with them but they sometimes have lovely views or do lovely things, generally they're quite self-destructive and their own worst enemy but I love them anyway. Another, newer group, are all really good people, they do work that helps other people, have healthy lifestyles and good opinions about things. But I also struggle as their sense of humour is quite different to mine - they're always quite reasonable and come up with other perspectives and so on. Basically I talk to them differently than I do my other group of friends. I want to be 'good' and more like the latter group, but in my heart I think I'm more like the former group. I like making horrible jokes and watching media that has that sensibility, but on the other hand hanging around with them has made me question if that behaviour is harmful in some way (if not to others, maybe to myself?). It's a fine line I guess.

The climate strikes today were good. Spare a thought for the child dropped off right outside school and forced to be a scab from a young age. Ta (& Guavanaut & Coffeetable) - I want to be better, and though I might like the cosiness of junk food and rubbish films, it doesn't really make me any better. I'll still hang around with my older friends as I can't just turn friendship on or off, and we've had some good conversations about trans rights, pornography and taxes (separately) where I feel I've been that 'good' friend to them - but I'll make more of an effort to hang around with newer pals and get into that rhythm.

I was away this weekend so missed a bunch of the Labour conference thing that still seems a bit small potatoes, but glad this has caressed it out of the public view. I reckon Labour will win next GE, last couple of Tory candidates gave the impression of an actual politician, whilst Boris has not only shat the bed but is accidentally streaming it on Facebook live sort of situation.

Is it a terrible idea to consider buying a house (guillotines aside) in between swinton and salford if it's all I can afford? I'd be cycle commuting to the uni and it looks doable but traffic sounds a bit poo poo. I lived around there, just north of the hospital for a bit. The traffic is poo poo and that particular A road is kind of ugly and busy, but it wasn't the worse place I lived in Manchester. Stretford and Withington are alright, Stockport has great train links and walks. I'd check the zones on the tram and work out how much you could be using it, then don't bother with Wythenshawe or Bury unless you need to go to the hospital for something regularly or like a meat market, respectively.

I was on JSA a few years ago, had to show evidence I applied for 20 jobs a week and log various activity. I was applying for most of my jobs via the universal job match website, but found out after nearly a year that if you had sent an application via that site (which they encouraged you to do), your CV was set as private and it didn't show to the business you were applying to. I was loving furious when I found that out as I had wasted so much time applying to something like 1000+ jobs that went nowhere. More recently I tried to apply to UC though my partner has a FT job so I was only eligible for something like £3 a week, whilst going to the job centre in the next town cost me over £4 in bus fare to get there. I also signed up using this Royal Mail facial recognition software and within a few weeks had a bailiff letter through my door for an unpaid bill at a previous address - I'm still convinced they passed my data on to the bailiffs and been waiting over 3 months for a GDPR request, though I'm not that eager to chase in case there's other stuff I don't know about and I get sent to future prison. So yeah, gently caress em. Ms Adequate posted:Ugh gently caress sorry to e/n but the chemist must have hosed up somewhere because I have run right out of my anxiety meds and have distinctly not got the usual message about my repeat being ready to pick up. In a bad way now. Hey, this happened to me this week too (?) - I went back to my GP and the reception desk managed to find another pharmacy that had what I need, they sent it back to 'the spine' (some main hub apparently) and they sent it to my local pharmacy the day after. Good luck though, hope it works out soon and is manageable. justcola fucked around with this message at 18:39 on Sep 25, 2019 |

I'm on Brintellix © at the moment and its making me loving miserable, but I've been told it has the least amount of side-effects so maybe give that a go. But I've basically felt like I've been on a comedown for weeks with no junk food to balance it out (though I've been grinding my teeth a lot less when I sleep so, balances out). If you like walking and little dudes, I'd suggest considering microscopy as a wee hobby. You can get a pretty good (100x) microscope for less than the price of a console and do stuff like collect water and soil samples, make and preserve slides and also look at little things like your skin cells or blood or whatever. I've been doing it on and off for a few years as there's too much light pollution for a telescope, but doing stuff like taking a water sample from some moss and finding a tardigrade for the first time is pretty magic.

Holidays are coming. Regarding student votes - when you enrol online at university there's a section on the page asking you to register to vote, which I hadn't seen previously. I have a little bit of faith that younger people are politcally engaged and will register sooner than usual, especially with all the pap happening.
