I don’t think Gruden called the shot on the voiding fine
Brown wanted out, the voiding fine was just the excuse. If it wasn’t that he woulda found some other reason to not show.

And yeah Mayock is basically the head of the scouting department with a cool title, Gruden runs the show. Unfortunately for him he’s also Gruden’s human shield so if Davis feels embarrassed enough by the whole thing he might make Mayock the sacrifice.

even bill loving belichick's defenses are generally "eh, it's not the WORST in the league, i guess" and he was a defensive-minded coach
that's not really true, NE's defenses are almost always in the top 10 in points allowed and they've been absolutely elite for probably seven or eight years of this century

Sports, and the NFL's one-and-done playoff format in particular, are awesome in that some small stroke of luck, maybe the right few players getting hot at the right time, can change a team's fortunes and a 9-7 team can beat perhaps the best overall team in history

However, a bunch of people might take that randomness as irrefutable validation that everything they do is right and correct and out comes Tom Coughlin

OBJ and Baker have regressed and Chubb clearly isn’t being maximized, it’s not insane to think that a large portion of the Browns talent issues are caused by the inability of coaching to develop talent. Like if you cant get your offense to line up correctly how much should you be trusted to spot and correct the tiny flaws that can make up the difference between a starter or quality depth guy and a washout

What variables made the players suddenly better at football despite the roster not changing?

Getting to play the Panthers twice, the Jags, the niners in a trap game, but most of all signing Younghoe

If you really think the coaching change was the main reason the Falcons turned around so dramatically in the 2nd half you probably should keep Quinn - he adjusted and now the team is capable of 11 or 12 wins.

Say they fired him midseason and the replacement coach went 6-2 (assuming they beat the Bucs, that’s certainly no gimme) to close it out, including wins over the Niners and Saints on the road, you probably hire that guy...

But maybe they weren’t as bad as 1-7 and aren’t as good as 6-2 and you should fire him because he’s the coach of a wildly inconsistent team that goes on streaks, as inconsistent teams are wont to do

Merry Xmas goons!

Roman would at least attempt to maximize Chubb (lol) which is what the Browns offense should be based on

Booger should be part of one of the major networks C teams, he’d get better and I wouldn’t have to listen to him every single week

Well, at least Stefanski is a run first guy, and Chubb seems like the ideal zone blocking scheme back (really Chubb just seems like an ideal back period) so maybe it’s a good hire

Niners crushing them didn’t really seem like a scheme thing, Vikes line got dominated at every single position and that’s a hard thing to x and o out of, especially with a largely immobile qb
