I cannot believe I finally caught up with the wrestling questions thread

O.K. here it comes, my question that does not deserve its own thread:

Why did the Initiative break up the moment I bought their shirt

Almost as importantly, why does nobody ever talk about the WWC when saying "all" American territories died? Sounds like they have been plugging right along down there since the 1970s and even doing fairly good business in the process. I imagine the answer is just "people do not think of Puerto Rico as America"

I typed up and deleted a post about this because I couldn't find the right words, but it boiled down to me feeling the exact same way about JJ in this era's intercontinental title/midcard picture as I did about HHH in the main event/world title picture - I just hated seeing them on my tv at all and, in the case if HHH especially, it was what drove me away from wrestling.
I always love piling on HHH hate so yeah, I agree completely. I definitely did like HHH at one point, which puts him ahead of JJ, but about the time we were finally free from Jarrett was when Haitch started the downward spiral of interestingness that gave us our collective traumatic memories of hearing HHH talk about how cool he was for 30 minutes at the start of every wrestling show

I also typed up and deleted a post unfairly calling Kip Sabian the Jeff Jarrett of AEW, as clearly he is very talented even if it felt like his character was "a wrestler"

I did very occasionally enjoy watching Jarrett get his rear end kicked, though, especially that squash where Christian should have won the... European? belt, which elevates him above, say, X-Factor

In theory, having an amazing unbeatable champion is cool, and there were probably points you could argue Roman Reigns was a better champion than whoever AEW had at the time. But the fact that I almost bet [whatever maximum the betting agency would allow] on Roman to win despite not watching WWE because you do not need to watch WWE to know how Roman Reigns matches are going to go, well, that is really not so good.

I bet Cody really believes he is going to be allowed to beat Roman, hahahaha

(I say this, then Paul Heyman turns on Roman to join Cody and starts wearing polka dots en route to Cody squashing Reigns in a coal miner's glove match)

But yeah I love thinking about Vince absolutely planning on the Rock beating Roman at Wrestlemania next year and then the Rock does not agree to do it and so Roman just keeps the belt against, hmm, Bron Breakker, only to lose it at Wrestlemania 40 to Goldberg

What I like about him is that when I first saw him pop up in something (I want to say Wrestling With Wregret?) I was like "did we really need a 1970s/1980s horror host wrestling character?" and by the third time I saw him I was like "actually I think we did"

I do suspect if he were not like palpably a good person the gimmick would really not work, though. Watching him eat tacos with Thunder Rosa was a wonderful experience

Side note, I am so glad my two favorites from the initial NWA renaissance (Ricky Starks and Thunder Rosa) get to come out with belts every week now. Though RIP Question Mark

I really do not understand how anyone can hate Nick Aldis, even if I can certainly understand not thinking he is fantastic. I love his "blatantly trying to be a Serious 1980s Babyface" gimmick personally, though I do agree it could not possibly work anywhere he was not one of the top guys by default.

Also M-Dogg20/Matt Cross is, like, O.K. Here is the thing. Not all of you are old enough to have gone through a phase where the only digital wrestling videos you could get were clips from KaZaA. I am going to say literally 50% of all the wrestling clips I remember finding in those days (that were not of big-league wrestlers) were of M-Dogg20 doing (for the time) amazing flippy moves off of various things in various people's backyards (or, presumably, eventually CZW rings or whatever). He was probably just good at self-promotion, but it certainly made it seem like this dude was so good that he was about to break into the big leagues despite (as Forkboy84 pointed out) it being almost unheard of for an obvious backyard guy to make the jump at that point.

I remember us trying to figure out in my indy fed who the hell M-Dogg20 actually was to see if we could maybe get him to come in and do a match, but I certainly never heard of anyone determining how to contact him at the time (our fed also folded in 2003, and these conversations probably would have been more like 2002, so maybe he was not hard to find for long but certainly at that point he seemed to be)

Obviously "annnnnnd NEWWWWW!" is always a lovely moment, but every time I hear it I keep thinking there is some famous "annnnnd STIIIIIIILL!!!" moment that got a huge pop, which suggests to me it was in a match with some sort of wonky uncertain finish, or else the audience would have already hit the big pop from the face champion winning the match.

Is there a specific match I am thinking of? What do you mean you do not know my brain!? It is also certainly possible that has happened a dozen times and I am having a hard time remembering what match it was precisely because I am just merging a bunch of different moments together

If anything is hurting AEW now it is that somehow the current holders of the two most major men's belts are cutting fewer promos and having fewer matches. I mean in Hangman's case that is probably true and due to circumstances out of his control, but how did Jurassic Express get less interesting? And no I do not think the lack of Marko Stunt was a big factor, though honestly it did probably impact their overall presence, not that I am a huge fan of Marko's.

For clarification, despite sort of starting the Jurassic Express conversation, I have a Luchasaurus shirt and love him dearly and am definitely a fan of Jungle Boy, which is why I am confused how it seemed like they have had less attention focused on them since winning the belts. It does probably help that I enjoy Luchasaurus promos and they are now functionally absent, per Projecthalaxy's comment

Ricky Starks is probably my favorite all-around AEW talent though*, though I also quite like Hobbs, Swerve, and Keith Lee too, so I really imagine whatever happens next will be great

*and he needs at least one t-shirt that does not look like it is advertising a male escort, not that this is inappropriate for his gimmick at all

Goldberg had already beaten Hogan, so it would have been like "of course Hogan had to get his win back" which would have been less surprising than what ended up happening (or wait did Goldberg not beat Hogan until after that? I do not remember anything anymore)

But maybe at the time Nash doing it seemed at least like maybe an improvement, even though in hindsight I think I would have rather it been Hogan?

I remember the first time Nash defended his actions by saying "someone had to break the streak" I thought to myself "I feel like Goldberg basically won the title and then Nash beat him immediately," and if that was seriously all his big-time defenses then that pretty much confirms it. I guess by 1998 standards having three title defenses was not that short, but uh, yeah, he probably should have beaten someone besides DDP who had actually held the belt before. Wait and DDP had not held it yet, ugh
