Reminder Schiff gave the IGIC and DNI until Thursday to hand over the whistleblower documents. I wouldn’t be surprised if they waited until Friday to announce official proceedings.

Here's another one for the pile. I imagine offices that haven't released a statement yet are scrambling to do so. I wonder if Pelosi's office is issuing form letters? Again though yall, be ready for the actual announcement to be delayed until Friday. Schiff was pretty clear he was giving the IGIC/DNI until Thursday to release the whistleblower docs before he threw out subpoenas. https://twitter.com/RepColinAllred/status/1176486196421283840

theflyingorc posted:It doesn't feel like they're using this as a threat to get something, though. It feels like they're going to do it regardless of what the DNI does Oh agreed; I think there's enough leaking already to move forward regardless. I also expect the DNI to offer a single transcript (if they offer anything) but not the entire whistleblower complaint; I assume the complaint itself along with context is way worse than whatever crumb they try to give.

Phenotype posted:I read that, but it doesn't seem to answer my central question, which is "What can Congress do if the White House still says 'lol no'?" Okay, impeachment makes it easier to issue subpoenas, and it blows up the Trump team's main legal objections to complying with the subpoena. But what if they say "gently caress you, we're still not releasing that because executive privilege presidential harassment fake news etc" and just continue the stonewall? Then can we get Mnuchin or Barr or someone getting perpwalked across the White House lawn? Contempt of congress and begin fining them many many large amounts of monies a day until they comply.

Run out the clock for what? To what end? Representatives are avalanching toward supporting an inquiry because their offices are getting flooded with democratic voters demanding they move toward impeachment. The voters want this. Representatives no longer gain anything from waiting.

Excuse me I haven’t been closely following Ukraine Gate before things blew up the last couple days. Do we know the accusations of the quid pro quo are legit? I'm not sure the acting DNI would be committing a crime by denying Congress access to it if it wasn't damning. Regardless, impeachment should be proceeding based on the white houses direction of the acting DNI to suppress the report anyhow. It's a crime, the white house is obviously directing the acting DNI to suppress it.

All six committees continue investigating, and likely turn up a fuckload more dirt with enhanced powers because this is now an impeachment inquiry. A vote is held, timing depending on public reaction and also what exactly is uncovered. It goes to the senate where ...??... anything goes. Timing isn't great with the election in about a year; I think at this point ideally they uncover more obvious crimes in about six months and send it to the senate, allow the senate to not convict and the dem nominee to campaign on the many, many crimes uncovered that republican senators handwaived away. Also politico is now up to 181 dems officially supporting impeachment inquiry, although they still show Pelosi as 'not yet' sooooo who knows.

If the whitehouse was trying to block it last week because it was credible and serious, why release it today. Their only hope is to control the narrative. This is Barr's summary, all over again. They're going to redact the report heavily in a manner that makes trump look innocent and release it to try and control how the public views it.
