I was in a deep red part of Virginia for work a few weeks ago, and there were a bunch of signs against socialism up around a lot of the properties on the town’s main drag. Except for one person who had a big sign that said WHAT DOES SOCIALISM GET YOU? Followed by a list that said fire departments, public schools, the US military, national parks, etc. It was this weird sliver of dark blue in a town where most restaurants have OANN on in the background.

George W. Bush differs from Trump in that the former had a moral compass that guided his decision making and presidency. You could certainly disagree with the directions it pointed him and the decisions he made, but at least you had a general idea of what motivated him. You certainly can’t say that for Trump, and it’s even odds whether it’s narcissism, racism, aspiring authoritarianism, greed or the brain worms feasting.

I’m having a hard time balancing my wish to not see a bunch of Turkish soldiers get killed with my profound desire that the Kurds make the Turks pay for every loving inch of ground they take.
