I haven't purchased a Quest yet but I am strongly considering blowing some portion of my Christmas bonus on one. My main concern is that I'm a fat sweaty pig, and I had some, uh, issues when I borrowed a friend's Vive for a weekend. How do other fat, sweaty goons deal with this problem with the Quest? Are there replaceable/machine washable headbands or something? Public VR spots basically use like a toilet seat cover for the eye hole right?

If for some reason you do want disposable covers, for yourself or guests, or whatever, yes, you can get them as well:

Those VR Covers look pretty nice, and not too bad pricewise either. I appreciate the info!

Another question I had about the Quest, how is the Chromecast streaming support for the video? I'm only going off of the video Giantbomb did on the Quest the day it launched and it seemed barely functional, being able to stream to an external device seemed like a real cool idea so people could see what you were looking at but it seemed like it needed work.

Is there any way that the hand tracking on the Quest isn't total poo poo? It seems like a cool add-on but I imagine it'll be using something similar to what Kinect used to track hands which probably won't be great. Which isn't the worst thing in the world considering that it's just a value added thing but I am curious to see how it works.

They've never said it's going to replace touch controllers, even in the blog post the videos show them navigating web pages and using video player controls, and for that it'll probably be just fine. And those are situations you probably wouldn't want to pull out your controllers anyway

Almost like it's a mode just for watching porn without getting your controllers sticky

I figured that was the case, I'm not looking for individual finger fidelity or anything like that but was wondering what they were pitching it for. Sounds neat if it works just as a way to navigate around before picking up the controllers or whatever.

Another question for quest owners, is there a forward facing camera thing like the Vive has that you can enable to look out while in the headset? I really liked that feature so I could tell if I was about to squish one of my cats who decided to flop down in front of me but haven't heard mention of it on the Quest at all.

drat, B&H got some 64GB Quest 2's in stock tonight and I finally got clearance from the missus to pick one up. Carts opened at 5:45 because of B&H observing Shabbat and the site was so slammed that the cart timed out by the time my payment could process, and when I refreshed the cart it was already sold out. So close :smith:

What is needed for the USB-C cable to do the oculus link stuff? I heard you don't necessarily need the official one but wasn't sure if I need a special type or if there's a recommended alternative one for using it as a link cable. I want to pick one up for sure but if I can avoid having to pay $80 for a USB cable that would be preferable.

Oh nice, I wasn't sure if there were different types that I needed to watch out for but this is good to hear. Seems like maybe the only issue is none of them have the L shaped connector like the official one has so it's maybe a bit janky where it connects to the headset.

I spent a few hours playing HL Alyx last night from the other room with maybe one or two one second hiccups, and just found out today that I can also play Squadrons through Origin using VD as well after some phenagling. This seriously rules, I still have a link cable on the way but this makes me so happy considering the one big hang-up I had about getting the Quest was the Oculus library being kinda poo poo compared to what Steam gets and this makes that a complete non-issue.

I have diminished amounts of fun once you start using anything but the pistols because the dual grip thing on long guns feels real weird when you're not actually holding onto something. Still though it's satisfying as hell just holding a gun and pulling the slide back to eject all the bullets lol.

Especially now with blackjack tables in Pokerstars. If you’ve never had the pleasure of playing blackjack in an actual casino, it’s probably the biggest “hey fucker, you made the wrong move and screwed up my cards” game out there, since the choices you make affect the cards that the next person will get.

If you don’t do what the person next to you is expecting you to do in irl blackjack, they tend to get mad, since you are all playing against the dealer and not against each other, so the incentive to actively screw the other players isn’t there

Ah okay. I'll check it out, thanks for the heads up. If the UI is busted I might just wait until it's out of beta though.

Also people talk about docking windows playing videos in their game for stuff like elite dangerous, is there an app that lets you do this? ETS seems pretty perfect for just such a thing.
