Alex Smith revealed he required 17 surgeries to repair his broken right leg.

The last number we'd heard was six back in December, but Smith ended up getting a severe infection and needed a whole lot of operations to remove tissue. Smith was in an external fixator device for eight months but has since shed the contraption and is walking on his own. He was seen throwing passes on the practice field this week. Still, Smith is expected to miss the season and his career remains in serious question. But 17 surgeries? Goodness. No wonder Trent Williams doesn't trust the Redskins medical staff.

Nice career, Alex.

We just discovered in the AFC East thread that if you are sick of penalties and want the refs to cut that poo poo out, you need to be watching... the Dolphins.

They've been called for HALF as many penalties as the Browns or Falcons (28), and have benefitted from the least penalties as well, 33, with the Titans having had 56 benefit them.

Good, fundamental football there folks.

Even the refs are like “eh gently caress it”

On Sundays just kick off two games every hour one on each CBS / FOX and just let them aggressively cut between them as the situation warrants when your home team isn't playing.

Then how would they force us to watch the Dallas Cowboys eat rear end

You know that New England has been sniffing around.

Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports the Bucs won't trade O.J. Howard.

Howard hasn't been utilized in the Bucs' passing game as often as most would like but that doesn't mean the Bucs are going to be trading away their young tight end. The Bucs have team control over his contract for two or three more seasons, so there's not a lot of incentive to dish him away at the moment. Howard will likely continue to see his 2-5 targets per game as a boom-or-bust TE2 in fantasy.

Greg Olsen did a great interview on First Take, and it's tons of cool stuff, but they asked him who the 5 most athletic players he's ever played with.

1. Sean Taylor
2. Devin Hester
3. CMC
4. Eric Reid
5. Cam Newton

1. I was real wrong about CMC

2. His upper half is uh no longer small

How many games does the Chiefs have to lose in a row for the front office to Gary pressuring Mahomes to come back? 4? 3?

Well they're probably going to lose their next two, then first to score wins against the titans.

I dont have any doubts the Chiefs will make the playoffs but they were really trying to get homefield.

now they'll almost certainly have to go to Foxborough after the Patriots finish knocking down the rest of the strawmen on their schedule.

beasley is completely loving worthless and they'll get nothing for him.

Either they eat that contract for a late round pick or they send picks with him for a team to take that contract.

Atlanta is in such a weird position.

They should be blowing it up but they just gave out huge contracts to Jarrett and Julio, and last season made Matt Ryan the highest paid qb in the nfl.

Next season Ryan and Julio are over a quarter of their cap space lol.

Thank you Bucs. Thank you.

quote:

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Patriots inquired about O.J. Howard but were told he's not available.

Howard would make an incredible amount of sense for the Patriots, who have yet to find an adequate replacement for retired tight end Rob Gronkowski. The 2017 first-rounder has yet to click in Bruce Arians' offense, but was excellent a year ago, leading the position in yards per reception (16.6) while also showing promise as a blocker. Joining forces with Tom Brady in New England would no doubt come as a major boost to Howard's stagnant fantasy stock, though unfortunately for all of us, it doesn't appear the Bucs will entertain that possibility.

Olsen has also said he's not going to retire as long as he thinks he has something to offer and he's playing very well this year.

The whole booth thing was a reaction to him thinking his career was over when his foot was bum for two seasons.
