It’s only really exaggerated because we’ve got a president that’s fuller of bullshit than any other before him, the folks defending his rear end are fully onboard with his bullshit, and our awareness of his bullshit is incredibly enhanced by how easily we can get information that refutes said bullshit.

There's no limit as far as I know. I saw an article earlier saying that they might impeach him again before the election whatever the Senate does.

Yeah, the House just does the investigation and makes the recommendation to the Senate. The Senate does the conviction. Just because they recommend the president for one offense doesn’t mean they can’t recommend additional articles of impeachment for different offenses.

Edit: I’m not savvy on the exact terminology, but that’s basically how it works. House impeaches on an offense, Senate convicts. House can impeach on any other offenses as they see fit. Then those go to the Senate.

It loving sucks this doesn’t work like a regular court case. I mean, I get a lot of reasons why that’s just not logistically possible, but every time Trump’s defense team just blatantly lies, it would be great to have a sustained objection where the judge tells them to knock it the gently caress off.

Also, there’s the whole witness thing. If someone goes on trial for murder, the defense can’t just get a waiver on the prosecution calling someone who witnessed that poo poo first-hand.

If Joe Biden somehow (god, please, lord, do not allow this to happen) were to get the nomination, it’d be 2016 all over again with the bullshit “BUT HER EMAILS” rallies.

Sure, they’re going to do that, but I contend it would be less of an issue if Hunter Biden wasn’t called before this shitshow. You remember what happened during the Benghazi hearings, right? The administration did everything by the book, for the most part, but by allowing Republican shitheads to get their Fox News host talking points on video, in front of a large audience, and by allowing selective editing of those videos, they further damaged the image of Hillary Clinton as a trustworthy alternative to Donald John Trump.

On top of that, why? Why even give them that win, since we know it’s gonna contribute to a disinformation campaign? Don’t give them the footage. Don’t give them the editing opportunities. They should just tell them to gently caress off and hold the sham trial they’re already gonna hold, regardless of who testified on either side.

i mean id say give it to them hunter if he is up to it and than let them hang themselves more for November.

I dunno. Last night in the thread, a bunch of folks were hashing out how this is gonna play, and I’m still of the opinion it’d be better to just let the Republicans have their stupid sham trial and dismiss it than call in the Bidens during the impeachment trial of Donald John Trump, because:

1) If Joe and Hunter did some bad poo poo, let them be prosecuted in a relevant trial. It has zero to do with the articles of impeachment, because it doesn’t matter if they were doing bad poo poo. The president wanted a sovereign nation to launch an investigation into a political rival and went mob boss on their asses. The investigation was for his own personal gain, no matter the results of said investigation. Allowing Joe or Hunter to testify would conflate the two.

2). We have zero guarantee Bolton will testify with anything meaningful. He’s a complete unknown at this point, and regardless of what people have already testified, he could undo all of that with a simple “I don’t recall.”

3) Benghazi, on steroids. Even if the Bidens did nothing wrong, the appearance at trial will allow that poo poo to eat up news cycles and it’ll be a repeat of 2016, should Biden get the nomination. Note: I do not want Biden to get the nomination, I am all in on Sanders, I am just speaking to that hypothetical.
