After 50 days the closest fire to me (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too close) has finally been declared OUT.

The northern monster of 512000ha it came from is looking like it wont last the incoming downpour on Saturday. But hey... 4months and lots of destruction and horrific air pollution, it certainly did a loving number of the north Blue Mountains.

South... that flared on the weekend but that may not last past the downpour coming either.

800,000ha gone just in my local area since September 2019. And it might finally be over.

There's a Canon R6 coming tho that while it isnt as mindblowing, is actually looking like it's just in general still a massive leap forward and a fair bit cheaper. Also Canon have been pretty drat good keep their older EF and EF-S lens series working with the new RF mount so you can use any of your present glass without an issue going forward. Just have to wait till June.

GM should have sold Holden alongside of their Euro setup to PSA. Maybe Holden wouldnt have had the crippling profit shifting BS that GM demanded and they might have made a profit. Like strangely enough Opel did in 2018 for the first time since 1999.... odd co-incidence that

Like for instance, did you know GM did a fair degree of profit shifting with Holden under the guise of paying for rights to it's own engineering (Holden's NOT US GM) and trademarks? And as a interesting thought, Opel under it's first year of ownership by PSA made a fairly decent profit. The first one since 1999. Co-incidence you say? Or or likely proof Opel was in fact being leeched by GM? And that in fact Holden's average per worker wage bill wasn't actually that much higher than a GM one?

It also seems odd the conservative govt didnt want to pay a cent more when Holden returned 16 dollars to 1 in economic benefit. The LNP have zero issue handing out big bucks to miners.... who are actually smaller and employed less as a sector than Holden by itself, let alone the suppliers jobs it supported. It's less odd when you work out that Holden and the car industry in general was heavily unionised. So you might say no one would be THAT loving stupid to dare GM to close and risk 100,000s of jobs and billions of economic benefit as a whole just because they hated unions right?

Yeah well the other big earners -Tourism and Education have been utterly assfucked by fires and Coronavirus respectively and Iron ore (which also means coking coal exports going to hit the floor too) is going to suffer with the China downturn coming.

Holden at one point by itself was the biggest export earner - It used to be worth a few billion even in the 90's. gently caress me we really have had some dumb shits in power to let all that go.

Then yes you indeed have something to worry about! The rest of us.... pretty much even if we get it, it'll be a complete non event - the rates of even hospital are low for anyone under 50. There's a lot of doubt the 2% fatality rate is close to reality due to cases that just don't develop into anything or just a bit of a sniffle - like influenza and thence just go unnoticed and uncounted. Most of the time you feel a bit under the weather, three days later you are fine. Sure some cases get bad esp iif you have a pre-existing issue beforehand (or live in areas where the air is dirty / you are a smoker / old) but bluntly put the chances of even it getting like that are low except if you are old or in piss poor health to begin with.

And unlike Influenza, this is behaving exactly like other coronaviruses and barely affecting young people at all. Also it looks like it doesnt spread well in warmer enviroments.
