Whilst we are on the subject of home decor, how much change can I make to a room that I am renting? I haven't added any studs to the wall (used a few of them though for hanging things) but would like to know what exactly the legal grounds are for repurposing stuff?

Thanks folks!

In my experience landlords want you to live in a featureless beige cube with no changes at all - worth contacting your landlord if you have something in mind (being specific helps) - and I've painted walls and returned them to beige before leaving - some colours are more permeable than others.

In terms of decorating without any permanent modifications:
- House plants can do quite a lot, especially big cheese plants and the like. Even a wee cactus is better than nothing.
- Free-standing shelving units you can put in front of a wall then put ornaments and stuff on
- Framed pictures can be heavy and blu-tacking stuff can look a bit, tacky. You can make up a very light frame using a piece of bamboo, some thread and bulldog clips to hang pictures on very small nails that can easily be painted over after
- Self-adhesive posters can also be a bit neater, leave no marks and can be re-used if you keep the backing. Bit pricier than other stuff but not too bad.
- Lamps and lighting can make a big difference to a room, especially if any shades are coloured and translucent
- Any soft furnishings you have you can put a throw on or something, looks a bit cosier. Same with buying some new curtains rather than just the ones that came with the room.

It's nice to read others felt they wasted their 20s. Between bouts of unemployment, poo poo relationships and a fuckload of drugs I think I'm just lucky to be alive. Now I'm in my 30s I'm trying not to repeat those mistakes, if you find the same thing keeps happening to you you haven't learned the lesson yet.

One issue I do have is I absolutely caned films and music when I was younger and now everything seems kind of boring and done before. I've ended up at the fringe of media, watching vlogs on YouTube with less than 10 views, comedy films from Africa shot on phones, field recordings of empty buildings. Even this is getting tedious though. Is all that there is left is...anime?

Not sure how you can interpret a death toll differently, but then we live in a world where every single film needs an 'ending explained' video on youtube.

I imagine it only gives a general notion of what the toll is and we won't really know til next year. The demographic changes to the census might be interesting.

Also learned today the main reason there's very little remote freelance work for my trade is everyone's scared to death of NDAs, like we're all going to use this as an excuse to do some real industrial espionage. There's also an office still operating, because let's not let a pandemic get in the way of money.
My trade is in no way key, they should all be remote working like every other place is.

If you live with a partner who works they also need some account to verify your details or something. I think this is just designed to embarass people into not asking their partner for assistance as they have to sit on the phone for hours.

There are no alternate methods. I found the best way was to leave my phone plugged in and have the call on speaker as you do something monotonous like organise receipts or do a jigsaw. Be glad they switched from Vivaldi to generic 'music' recently.

This means that next April, UC claimants will eat a 21% cut. Presumably in the middle of a severe recession.

When I spoke to them on the phone I asked about the extra £20 and they said they weren't sure about it - I also can't find any mention of it on the government website for it any more (I thought this was on a week or so ago but can't see it now)

These are cunts who burn money in front of homeless people and do austerity so they can profit - having Boris in hospital doesn't follow that narrative (maybe chucking his dad in would have). And like all conspiracy theories, it assumes that many people are highly competent and won't talk about it.

It'd be something if he did die. All those years working the media, fannying about, positioning himself closer and closer to becoming PM and then not even 6 months in dies during a big crisis he could have done something about. If you want to shave the back and sides of your head, that requires a bit more practice. I'd say start off with finding your crown and then try and clip the hair you don't want to cut away from what you do. If you do it badly you end up with some bits longer than others and end up with a feathered effect, so make sure to go in both directions to get an even length.
