Are we sure Andy Dalton is better than Stidham cause I'm not. It's not a high bar to clear really. I'd 10/10 rather have Dalton than Newton though if I had to pick, at least Dalton isn't cooked and can run a real offense

The counter to this of course could be maybe Dalton would be better just by virtue of escaping the Bengals and the Patriots would know how to fix him

I don't get that unless they want a cheap veteran backup. I'd much rather have Minshew than Dalton

The Bears screwed up by trading for Foles too, should have just waited for Dalton

I think it’s a lot of hard work, you have to practice a lot of different things such as the various releases, the speed at which different routes are run, how to chop in and out of cuts, how to not show your hands and tip the ball is coming, and like a hundred other tiny details. People don’t want to do all that work and assume their speed or size can get it done

Plus those subtle shoulder movements to sell they are running different routes which look awesome

Gritty's questioning leads to another thing that I've always thought: why the hell it seems like teams always undervalue a prospect ability to run routes? There's always some dudes whose draft profile says "really crisp route runner blah blah projected 6th round pick". Like, isn't getting open the most important thing an NFL WR can do (besides reliably catching passes, obviously)? Unless you are a genetic freak like Julio Jones or Calvin Johnson that can win 50/50 balls at will

Duck Hodges is a great small town QB name but not good enough for the big stage.

Mason Rudolph and Andy Dalton are both mid to above average QB names.

This is how I rate players.

What good is being able to run all the routes when you can't get open because you are too slow, or too weak to be able to stop defenders from muscling you off course

Mostly because even if you dont have good top end speed or quickness the DB can close that gap unless the throw is perfectly timed.

Some fun:

I mean Ocho was special either way. But some people are absolute monster athletes but can never get it through their head to stop rounding off routes, or at least make their bodies stop doing it. Or they can't stop themselves from giving clues as to where they're going, etc.

e: I mean I'm sure there are good reasons for this, my brain just doesn't understand them.

Everyone has a plan until they get jammed in the face.

It's really difficult to process the technique of the corner, recognize the coverage, and adjust the route. Receivers require so much concentration but can get away with much less at the college level. Stevie Johnson could get open with the strangest routes ever seen because he exploited what the defense was doing whereas Cordarelle Patterson couldn't get open to save his life because he relies on athletic ability alone.

lmao ron saying they can't bring in Cam because of Kyle Allen

quote:

Redskins coach Ron Rivera said adding free agent QB Cam Newton "depends on circumstances."

Additionally, Rivera stated, "I think with Cam (Newton), and I have thought about it, I mean, it's something that's run through my mind, and it's about the situation and circumstances. I'm not sure I would do it. I'm not sure if I wouldn't do it." Previously the Redskins' new coach said that they passed on Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 2 overall pick because he saw enough from Haskins to give the second-year QB a shot to lead the offense in 2020. Rivera addressed this as well, noting, "You know, the thing about Cam really is the situation ... We're in a situation where we've got two really young quarterbacks, one that's been with us, been in the system, understands how we want things done and the other one is a guy who was taken last year in the first round and shows some promise." Ultimately, it's going to be hard for Cam to find a team until they're able to conduct a physical.

Rivera knows Cam is toast, and that he's the one that killed him.

Yeah probably.

Other things would be players intentionally going for his ankle (burfict, patriots in the preseason) as well as the shoulder injury after kelvin cut a route short and cam had to tackle a defender.

Also cam choosing not to better address the injuries before they added up like they did.

Just weird, random poo poo that adds up.

My worry (this year anyway) is that you're gonna see severe reduction in our WRs and TEs productivity simply because Tyrod doesn't throw as much as Rivers.

Tyrod has also never had these kind of weapons before so who knows.

I've always kind of looked at Tyrod as a poor man's Akex Smith, which i guess could be worse for a bridge QB

I'm by no means unbiased, but to me you can't have a conversation about the perfect wide receiver without mentioning Johnson's feet.

A bengals podcast recently was breaking him down as a draft prospect and, it's funny, he would seem like a total reach as a second round pick if you didn't know what he ended up as. He had mediocre production in college and a below average combine.

No one ever played for The Bengals and cared more than chad, though. Back in the height of his career there were reports about him sleeping multiple nights in the locker room. He was the 1st bengal I could remember in like 12 years who just seemed to genuinely expect to win every game.

She could of have been so much more but the writers just didn't care!
Pats have like $1.7mil in cap space, still haven't signed their rookies and will need space to sign free agents. Unlikely Dalton signs with New England for a bucket of fish heads when I'm sure he can garner much more than that as a potential starter. I'd rather watch Stidham and Hoyer stink up the joint than have the Dalton Experience anyway.

Shimrra Jamaane posted:

I don't think he was physically toast just yet when he signed. Problem was he'd spent his entire career in one offensive system and just wasn't uh, quick enough, on the uptake to learn something wildly different with a completely different vernacular and philosophy. He'd also spent much of his time in Cincinnati improvising and freelancing which goes over like a wet fart in New England.
