Also how filthy are these people? At the moment we're giving our flat a light clean every other weekend and it's fine. Splitting the rooms means it doesn't take all that long - maybe 2-3 hours.

Tarnop posted:I missed car insurance chat from a couple of pages back, but as with every FCA regulated industry: complain. Complain about the process, use the magic words Treating Customers Fairly, and remember that if you escalate your complaint to the Ombudsman, which you have the right to do for any complaint, then the company has to pay for it to the tune of about £400 To add to this, they'd really need to explain why the original documents you provided weren't good enough. If they specifically needed proof of address they should've told you that in the first place - but that doesn't mean they're in the wrong for asking for it after the fact. If you deliberately didn't provide it and they can show they needed it then they'd probably be fine to cancel the policy. There might be some compensation for messing you around and not being clear about what they needed in the first place though. I presume the tenancy agreement had your address though so they'd need a pretty good reason for rejecting that.

Aphex- posted:Rumours circulating around my work that most of us won't be going back into the office at all this year and will be WFH for the rest of it. Makes sense honestly and it's not like I'm unhappy with that news! We're the same. They just spent two months and probably loads of money getting thousands of people set up to work from home so they're not likely to want to rush everyone back to the office. I wouldn't be surprised if they get rid of most of the office space and make working from home the norm once this is over now that the infrastructure's in place. Josef bugman posted:What can you do in this instance? Is responding with violence as well not considered a good option? I would've thought the best course of action would've just been to refuse to leave and call the police if they tried to force the guy out. Now that he's out he'd probably have to wait for the courts to do something about it. Obviously the kids make that next to impossible which makes this even more lovely. stev fucked around with this message at 14:52 on May 19, 2020 |

blunt posted:Not to outright disagree with you, but this presupposes that the only things someone does with their time is work and watch Netflix. If you enjoy leaving the house and doing things (especially with other people) then living in the middle of a city has a lot of upsides which for some people justifies the price (pandemic notwithstanding). As someone who lives in London a night out in London is usually a miserable experience. Smaller, cheaper cities are much better for that kind of thing. I miss Norwich.

Several residents were just terfed straight back there from hospital in the weeks prior - and my gran looked like she was on the mend after two days so they were actually preparing to take her back as well. As far as I'm concerned she was murdered. It's a horrible feeling to actually know and be close to someone who's died directly as a result of the Tories. I know it won't stop anyone in my family voting for them though and I've pre-emptively decided not to open that particular can of worms.

London wages aren't that much better than the rest of the country for your average worker (ie not city wanker) - especially not taking the cost of living into account. The main benefit of London is the quantity of average paid jobs with the slight possibility of moving into a city wanker job.
