I've always covered my walls in old flyers, posters, cool or funny package labels, newspaper clippings, religious tracts, stickers, toys, whatever. That way there is always stuff to look at! Some of my favorite photos I've taken at shows were of Converge in Chicago. Yes, I do still consider Converge to be punk as hell and yes the photos were poopy because they didn't allow "professional" cameras in the venue. Since it was so short, the teacher let me play it twice. That same class is the first time I ever got to play a drumset, and I just fuckin' hammered away with Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" to the best of my limited 12-year old abilities, and it was one of the only times from my childhood where my classmates in Illinois ever showed any respect for me. I was a huge Dead Kennedys fan in high school. Jello Biafra seems sort of obnoxious and pretentious, but his lyrics were loving great, and I loved the whole flyer art scene that Winston Smith helped create. Art and music are the same thing - expression. I like mine raw, and pure. It makes me feel alive!

Lyrics are super important to me. It's all part of the same package. My ideal records have tons of awesome art, and music, and lyrics, and you can just lay it all out and soak it all in. Alternative Tentacles are always great in that regard. They always toss in goofy poo poo, like stickers, or newspapers, or comics, or posters, with their records (or at least they used to). I think music should be free, but people can purchase the package if they want to. I like supporting bands who inspire me.
