cool cool cool cool

(it's the idiot from The Leaning Tower, apparently still terrible after all these years)

Jesus. This was one of the guys instrumental in getting us into Afghanistan after 9/11 and supporting the operations officers there. He's mentioned only as Mike in both First In, by Gary Schroen, and Jawbreaker, by Gary Bernsten. Both are highly recommended books. Schroen was the lead CIA guy who went in with a bunch of operations officers, a Marine arabic speaker, and some SAD guys who linked up with the Northern Alliance, and later a few A-Teams who, with the assistance of air power, beat, killed, or routed every Taliban stronghold. Unfortunately we tend to win invasions and lose the "peace" because the DOD is overflowing with money but we don't fund USAID or State Dept enough. Plus, Bush, Rumsfeld, et al making gigantic mistakes.

Bernsten relieved Schroen and became head of CIA ops in Afghanistan.

"Mike" (usually just "Mike") is mentioned in pretty much any book about the CIA and bin Laden and the invasion of Afghanistan.

How someone so high up in the CIA could have their brains broken by literal insane conspiracy theories, when this guy spent his entire career in the so called "deep state" is not only astonishing, but very troubling. It's the same fall from grace / brain being broken that Flynn had, too.

This is insane.

Donald once again proves that he's the biggest little whiny, petulant, petty piece of poo poo.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/17/politics/white-house-portraits-clinton-bush-trump/index.html

White House portraits of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush moved from prominent space to rarely used room

quote:

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The official portraits of former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush were removed from the Grand Foyer of the White House within the last week, aides told CNN, and replaced by those of two Republican presidents who served more than a century ago.

White House tradition calls for portraits of the most recent American presidents to be given the most prominent placement, in the entrance of the executive mansion, visible to guests during official events.

That was the case through at least July 8, when President Donald Trump welcomed Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The two stood in the Cross Hall of the White House and made remarks, with the portraits of Clinton and Bush essentially looking on as they had been throughout Trump's first term.

But in the days after after that, the Clinton and Bush portraits were moved into the Old Family Dining Room, a small, rarely used room that is not seen by most visitors.

That places the paintings well outside of Trump's vantage point in the White House. In their previous location, the pictures would have been seen daily as Trump descends the staircase from his third floor private residence or when he hosts events on the state floor of the White House. Now, they hang in a space used mainly for storing unused tablecloths and furniture.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The portrait of former President Barack Obama is not expected to be unveiled for a formal ceremony during Trump's first term, a sign of the bitter relationship between the 44th and 45th presidents. Trump has accused Obama of unsubstantiated and unspecified crimes, and has questioned whether Obama was born in the US for years.

Trump has -- less frequently -- similarly disparaged Bush and Clinton. In his book, former Trump national security adviser John Bolton wrote Trump "despised" both Bush presidents, and people familiar with the conversations say Trump has lambasted George W. Bush as "stupid." Trump has similarly castigated Clinton, the husband of his 2016 presidential rival, Hillary Clinton, and suggested he was a bad president.

Man arrested after pulling gun during mask argument at Florida Walmart
https://www.yahoo.com/news/man-arrested-pulling-gun-during-144548390.html

quote:

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man faces felony charges after he pulled a gun from his waistband and leveled it at a fellow Walmart shopper during an argument over face masks.

The encounter served as a linchpin in the debate over whether store owners and officials should require people to cover their faces inside buildings as the U.S. battles a surge in cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

Vincent Scavetta, 28, was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and improper exhibition of a firearm and arrested Wednesday after turning himself in, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office officials report.

‘Are you intending to shoot me over a mask?': Workers feel burden of enforcing rules

Widely circulated video showed Scavetta on July 12 arguing with another man in the electronics department of the Walmart. In the video, Scavetta is seen pulling a gun from his waistband and waving it at the other man.

Prompted by reports that the argument was mask-related, the story quickly went viral after Sheriff’s officials shared surveillance images of Scavetta and asked for help to identify him.

According to the arrest report, Scavetta told investigators that it was pouring rain when he arrived at Walmart the day of the argument, and that he had to walk outside from one end of the store to the other entrance while pushing his father in a wheelchair.

Once inside, Scavetta said he had to take his mask off because it was soaked, making it difficult to breathe and causing his glasses to fog.
Maybe get contacts or stop being such a whiny prick, bucko.

quote:

The other man involved in the incident, 46-year-old Christopher Estrada of West Palm Beach, told deputies on the day of the incident that he was shopping with his daughter when he told another man in the electronics department at Walmart that he should cover his face.

Estrada told deputies that man, Scavetta, swore at him. The two argued for a few minutes, drawing the attention of other customers who tried to break up the two men, Estrada said.

These people should be hanged.

What crime would that be, technically? Voluntary manslaughter? Negligent homicide?

Absolutely agree they should be put against a wall. They knew they could have saved hundreds of thousands of lives, and chose not to. That's an explicit choice they purposefully and willfully made. That's not just the incompetence we knew that they had. We already knew a competent response would have prevented all of this. This new information shows us that it was a willful choice. That is a loving travesty.

Post edited because I read more background info on it.

So she's getting charged not for doxxing, but basically inciting doxxing?

I don't really know how I feel about that.

I'm generally against doxxing, because more often than not, it's incorrect info. The reddit brigade named like 7 different people who was the "boston bomber." None of them turned out to be true. Twitter is no better at it.

That guy that was supposedly the old guy in the bicycle helmet who hit those kids and took down their signs, turned out to NOT be the guy, and his life was turned completely upside down for weeks. The original person who erroneously doxxed him apologized to him.

The "cop" who was supposedly the one in all black clothing and a motorcycle helmet who trashed the Autozone in Minneapolis turned out not to be the cop that got doxxed, but a racist 1%er biker who was trying to incite more violence.

But charging her with a felony not for actual doxxing, but calling for it? That seems like quite a stretch. Can joat mon give us some more context?

Edit: should've read her GoFundMe. She's being charged for a RETWEET, and the charge is for "cyberbullying." Hoooly poo poo that's loving dumb. Charges are BS and need to be dropped. Even if they aren't I really hope she beats the case, because it's weak as gently caress.

Yeah read my edit. The entire charge is horse poo poo. It's not an original tweet, it's a retweet. And you're right, it wasn't even calling for doxxing explicitly. Just trying to find out his info to lodge q complaint against him.

Those charges need to be dropped. They're BS.

Its probably fair to say that these two have personally caused a citywide lockdown.

Is it bad that because these people knowingly defied public health regulations, that I think they should be charged with murder if anyone dies from them, and assault if anyone is hospitalized and lives?

There needs to be a law to enforce public health regulations during a declared pandemic. Lol at that getting passed at the federal level in the US though. Maybe states will do it.
