this thread is probably going to reference NSFW things frequently, don't post porn but also probably don't read at work in the olden days of the internet, people were blessed with both anonymity and complete freedom. they used this freedom very poorly, and it attracted some of the absolute weirdest motherfuckers in human history to raise their freak flag unfiltered for all to witness. this recently came up in the greatest sagas thread, to give an idea (and some of my favorites): Rev. Bleech_ posted:I...never heard of this. But cake fartin' Steve was almost certainly the dude who wouldn't stop posting his dumb fantasy of a woman farting on a cake and melting the icing before making him eat it all over the alt.music.* hierarchy WeedlordGoku69 posted:yeah, I think I'm vaguely familiar with that weirdo, used to hear him mentioned in the same breath as the guy who wanted to be turned into a statue and then covered in hot grits by Natalie Portman The Saddest Rhino posted:I hope that's real and not turned out to be a joke like the Roy orbinson in cling film fetishist Rev. Bleech_ posted:Man one could do an entire book on Usenet weirdos from that time. Like Stan and the Sequencers, the dude who blathered on about how every album ever made was made to synch to certain movies and fabulous unspecified secrets were yours if you connected all the dots and helped him solve the mystery. Weird Al himself posted in his own newsgroup to tell him to go the gently caress away. if you ever encountered someone who was just weird as hell like this, post your favorite experiences!

There used to be a site called Crush! Yiff! Destroy! that catalogued a bunch of the excesses of the very earliest 90s furry fandom, and that was a fun read. It predated "cringe" sites like Encyclopedia Dramatica and whatever spawned out of that. Mostly I remember the guy who stalked Tress MacNeille, who had been the voice of Babs Bunny from Tiny Toons. I think he went by Quozl?

Prof. Alexander Abian, PhD of Iowa State's math department used to post on usenet, proposing we destroy the Moon. He thought it would solve a lot of environmental problems. You don't seem to get pure cranks like that anymore.

In 1995 there was a guy that kept a proto-blog called "The Loser Living Upstairs" that followed the daily life of his noisy upstairs neighbor in bizarre detail. He kept blogging after the upstairs neighbor moved out and kept a new journal called "The Life and Times of a 41 year-old virgin." It was as sad as it sounds. His Tripod(!) page is still available. http://losernet.tripod.com/chez.html He is still blogging and still having issues. It must be one of the longest continuous running blogs in existence. https://oversizedcranium2.blogspot.com/ https://exodusfootnotes.blogspot.com/

I remember there being a blog long ago by a woman claiming that she was the secret creative force behind like half of modern pop culture and the direct inspiration to the rest. Anyone know what it was/is called?

I kinda remember something from a very long time ago, but I don't know how to go about finding it again. It was a series of posts on, I think, blogger.com or one of those free, super-easy blog hosting sites, and it presented itself as (I think) some sort of series of rules expansions for the old TSR Marvel Super-Heroes RPG, but every post very quickly went off the rails and the author went from talking about Galactus to trying to apply MSH RPG rules to every aspect of what seemed to be a very strange and troubled life.

I hope that kid got a girlfriend Just remembered Major Cagri, a Turkish guy with a website about himself and his travels, it read basically like a dating ad in broken English with odd non-sequiturs. tbh he was probably the direct inspiration for Borat. Archived version: https://web.archive.org/web/20020726141104/http://www.istanbul.tc/mahir/mahir/ At some point this song showed up on mp3.com and it still makes me laugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbjY3PgVzlI I don't think anyone knows who made it Carthag Tuek has a new favorite as of 23:08 on Nov 4, 2020 |

I forget the name of some crank that got ripped off by a bunch of early internet sites and made his own site, and it wasn't long before the forums became a bigger destination, and he became even more of a crank and barely did anything on his own site. I guess he eventually got outed as an abusive rear end in a top hat and got bought out of his own site.

I drew Gonterman some art back like twenty years ago and he somehow found my AIM username and IMd me so fuckin fast. Weirder, a genuine fan of his IMd me at the same time all excited. I'm still not sure if that fan was just Gonterman also. It seems more likely than him having a real fan and also the coincidental timing. But, why?? I wish I had logs of those convos, but they probably weren't interesting. I remember them being awkward and stilted. Gonterman's a big genuine incel now, surprising no one.

She was in an old F Plus episode (I want to say the 100th). She was obsessed with amputees and seemed like she just wanted to copy whatever prosthetics the last amputee she saw had.
